Informative and interesting read.
Well written, great research. Enjoyed learning about the use of this iconic, though much maligned aircraft. A few minor editing issues typical of Helion titles, but not distracting. Color plates were excellent. Photos were also great. Cartography was just so-so. Also enjoyed hearing from some first hand accounts. Looking forward to future titles in this series.

Interesting book
I didn’t expect to learn much from this book, as I had already read about MIG-23s in combat. Therefore it was quite a surprise to read about actions I had never heard of before. Generally, due to technical, training and organizational issues, the MIG-23 fared poorly in the Mideast. But there were exceptions, the most notable of which occurred in 1984, during the Iran-Iraq war. I was also astounded by the performance of Libyan fliers, albeit in mock combat, against the USN’s best, in ‘86. Based on what Pollack wrote, I had always thought Libyan pilots were among the worst of Arab airmen.I don’t know what to make of an action in 1991, in which an Iraqi MIG-23 fired at a US F-111, causing an explosion and fireball, yet was said to achieve nothing.

Sad but useless
Be careful with this Author. In this book “Mig-23 Flogger in the Middle East” Tom Cooper didn’t study the subject properly, e.g. He wrote : Mig-23MLA lacked the capability to track targets in a tail chase!!! He didn’t see difference between 23ML and 23MLD modifications and many other things. Zero useful information from Syrian, Israeli and other sources. Only biased propaganda and fairy tales. So only some photos and coloured profiles are useful. The rest goes to the trash can.

Great book!
Always wondered about what the Libyans or Iraqis where doing with their MIg-23's back in the 80's and 90's? Now you can find out! first hand accounts of some surprising air combats -right up to the present with the Syrian civil war. Very well written and an invaluable source for historians and modeler's. A very interesting look at export customers experience with the swing wing Mig-23.

Bel volume
