Raleigh Eiger MTB 26in Tyre

CST or Cheng Shin Tyres make tyres for a lot of manufacturers which then get other companies' logos put on them (and are sold for much more than CST tyres are!) so chances are you're riding a pair right now. They are the parent company of Maxxis one of the biggest names in mtb and road tyres. These tyres will fit all 26 inch mtb wheels, they have a kind of V pattern tread if you look at them head on which means they steer better through mud, but you can reverse them to give you better grip and traction on the back. They probably aren't good enough to race on but that's not the point of these, they're a strong looking tyre which are good enough for every day use and the odd bit of off roading. You will not find a cheaper pair of tyres, time will tell how long they last.Update 05/02/13; I have had these on four months now, i do a journey of roughly a mile or just over a day to work there and back and a six mile round trip most sundays. I have had no trouble with these tyres and no punctures, they show little sign of wear, hope this helps.Update 06/10/14; These tyres have been on just over two years now, there is some wear to the back tyre but there is still at least a years life left in it doing a mile and a half a day on average.

Last time i bought a single tyre of the same quality as this was about four years ago from a retail bike shop which cost me £15 so going on inflation (excuse pun) that same tyre would now cost about £18 or more hence getting two of the same quality for only £12 at £6 each is an excellent price.When i saw the price of these tyres my hackles naturally went up thinking it's too good to be true with a catch of them being low quality seconds being sold off cheap but no they are good tyres which will last.The tread pattern is quite chunky which acts as a bit of suspension on the road and also makes the tyres less prone to punctures.I cannot accurately say how they would perform dirt trekking off road as i don't do that but with the feel of them i'd say fair tyres for doing that but doubt if they'd last as long as on the road !!!!!

I wasn't sure about ordering these - seemed too cheap. Spoke to a biking pal who pointed out that CST do all the tyres for major manufacturers - brand names that cost a lot more. Having ordered, the tyres arrived the very next day. Looked ok and having fitted them the first ride on mixed terrain left me impressed. Good grip in mud and rocky terrain. Second ride out - still pleased, but came home with a puncture. In fairness, the tack that had gone into the tyre would have punctured all but a kevlar reinforced tyre, so not a damning event. Have now re-fitted the tyre with a gloop filled inner-tube, so should be self sealing in future. Anyway - for the price you really can't go wrong - especially if you splash out a bit more and fit a self sealing inner tube.

You can't knock these for the price. Under £6.50 each is a bargain. No idea whether they'll stand up to wear and tear but they seem robust and rugged enough.I put these on a bike that gets only occasional use so I'm sure they'll last as long as the last set which were originals that came with the bike. They're more likely to perish due to old age, sitting in the garage, than fail on me going down a steep descent.I swithered whether to buy the Schwalbe Land Cruisers as they allow much better all-terrain riding. But nah, I went for cheapest for this purchase.I put the Schwalbes  Schwalbe Land Cruiser 26X1.9 Tyre with Puncture Protection 900g (50-559) - Black  on another bike. They're great.

At first I was a bit apprehensive about ordering these tyres as they are very cheap compared to others I had priced. I didn't want expensive tyres (I am not your keen cyclist more a cyclist for pleasure and to get places) but I didn't want cheap rubbish either. As well as this the tyres on my bike were 26 x 1.80 so I thought they would not do, but after some hesitation I ordered them and am glad I did. My trusty bike has had a new lease of life, I got two tyres for only a bit more than I would have paid for one elsewhere. Will definitely be using this seller again.

Only fitted one tyre today but its fine. I was worried it would feel very different from my normal tyres as I normally ride on roads but it felt fine on both road and trail. It arrived a day early, resonably packaged. And a marvellous price. I dont know if I can say this but I was in a national chain store yesterday in Stockport and they were selling the identical tyre, same Raliegh labelling for £11 each! I am delighted. I know its only a day but it all seems good and my experience is consistent with other reviews.

I got these because I had three punctures in a week and was sick of wasting money paying too much for tyres that punctured so easily, with the price being low I wasn't expecting much but they've been on now for around four months without incident. I'd recommend these to anyone
