You don't have to do what I did... but I got this thing, had a blast, and then promptly went to Lowe's to get an 18" bar and chain combo that fits the saw, almost double the size. With a new chainsaw chain, I have felled 3 mature pine trees with this pole saw. If you're using it for residential application, it is more than sufficient power to get done what you need. You just need to keep the bar and chain clean after use, and don't "bite off more than you can chew" ... meaning don't fell an entire tree from the bottom or you'll get bound up... Start at the top of the tree and work your way down. This is my favorite tool in the EGO line, my string trimmer and mower are awesome too. I wound up returning the edger because I didn't use it as much as I thought I would, the string trimmer does the trick for me, but I've never really edged my yard. If you do edge your yard regularly then go ahead and the edger works great, but I'd rather spend those dollars on other things like more batteries or a different attachment. I bought the hedger thinking I may return it, but it has proven to be very handy as well, I'll also be keeping that one. I bought 2 blowers, the 650 CFM one and the 765 CFM one. I found out there was a more powerful blower so I wanted that one instead, but I kept both when I found out the batteries are close to the cost of the 650 CF + Battery combo. I have tackled and transformed 2 yards that have had 15 years of neglect, I spent about $2k total in tools but that's the cost I would have paid a tree company to remove one of my trees. Totally worth it.

Already had an Ego 65 cfm leaf blower and got so frustrated at my Stihl tools I decided to go with Ego's multi head setup that uses the same battery. It doesn't even take a minute to switch heads and the performance is terrific. No fighting with the choke, don't worry about spilling gas when you put it down, starts each and every time, and recharges relatively quickly. The pole saw, this product, works great too - well balanced, cuts super fast and made ridiculously short work of trimming large limbs that dangled closer and closer over our driveway as summer progressed. I did in half an hour what would have taken me hours without this tool.

Works well, however buyer has to loosen the chain before first use. Crazy why they would tighten the chain so it won't turn smoothly.

Needs chain oil, head unit and battery (above 2.5A). Pole Saw was easy to assemble and fits the head unit fine. Blade is sharp and makes cutting quick. Manual recommends Oregon chain oil, but EGO does sell bio chainsaw oil that works. Did not use much of the chain oil in one session, no leaks. The blade does need adjustment after using it for a while. Noise level is lower than a weed trimmer. With everything connected, it is very heavy. Since tree cutting is usually above your head, this will make you tired. I did not use the extension, but that would be even worse. Cutting branches less than 2" might cause the blade to bounce and make messy cuts. Could use an optional jaw to lock the branch.

After buying and being pleased with the EGO mower two years ago, I bought the multi-tool this summer with the edger/string trimmer combo, I was satisfied with the product. But the addition of purchasing the pole saw has been outstanding. We were hit with an ice storm that decimated several trees in the yard. The pole saw was easy to use and made it easy to cut down the broken branches. The work that I was dreading to do, became easy, in addition to branches due to the ice damage I used the saw for a variety of trees and brush that I allowed over the years to get out of hand in my backyard. Adjusting the tension is easy as well as cleaning the machine when I was finished is pretty simple. A couple of times the pole saw did get pinched in the branches, but that was primarily my error of not getting the cut set so that gravity would pull the two branch sections apart. I bought the extension, but I haven't used it yet. If you get the multi-tool, and need a pole saw, I highly recommend this product.

Top of the line products. Have used it numeruos times cutting down low branches.

Ok I was a bit surprised by this.. I was like ok I have like 20+ trees on the property and it would come in handing and it definitely does. Excellent.. I even use it more than the ego 18" chain saw. Its great for the small jobs of breaking up smaller branches easier to manage.

Good product and easy to use. Works very well

Perhaps a bit heavy with the 5amp battery, but it does the job well and dependably. I have a number of willow trees that regularly require attention. I use an extension as well so I can get to the heights I desire.

I own many of the EGO products - self propelled mower, leaf blower, string trimmer, multi purpose tool with battery with the hedger attachment and now the pole saw attachment. I am sold on all the battery operated products and would highly recommend them.
