It actually works!
Finally a moisture monitoring system that works! I've been looking for a way to monitor the moisture level in my Bonsai trees, outdoor planters, and indoor plants for a long time. I've tried a couple other products on the market and they're no where near as advanced and well thought out as these! Pros - System can monitor more sensors than you'd ever need - Ability to create alarms that send notifications based on humidity and or battery level. - interface is very intuitive. Creating alarms "scenes" is easy. - Wifi device seems to be fine connecting to devices located ~20ft away and through walls. - So far it's proving to be waterproof. - Ability to chart and log historic moisture levels. - Sensors seem to be working in 4" deep pots. - Individual sensors display % Moisture. Cons - Requires a 2.4Ghz wifi connection and will not connect to a SSID that was broadcasting both 2.4 & 5. - Connects to alibababa hosted servers in China. - An absolute bear to setup if you have an advanced firewall running Suricata / Snort! This tripped 3 Snort rules. - The sensors require a Phillips screw driver (included) to access the batteries. - There doesn't appear to be a rubber gasket sealing the battery compartment. - The sensors require ~ 6" of soil to fully seat. - Instructions are near worthless! I could write better instructions in my sleep!

Keep track remotely
These work fantastic at keeping track of moisture while weโre away. It also gives outside temperature which is super helpful. Had them 3 months so far have not needed to change batteries.

Spyware - Beware
Spyware - beware. Rainpointโs newer items arenโt supported by the old app (which had no processing of user data, allowed manual set up of items), instead users are directed to a new app which processes user data, is deceptively designed to not work unless additional permissions are granted (access to your location, WiFi permissions, etc.) which are not actually required to pair the probes to the hub and your WiFi network. I have a separate IOT network for all my devices and could not get this stuff to work securely without compromising access to personal identifiable information. As for the probe itself, I bought one stand alone probe and liked it. Decided to get the kit with WiFi and was shocked to find out they werenโt compatible with the Rainpoint-TY app, then disturbed by the design of the new Rainpoint Home app. Additionally, the probe that came with the kit seemed lower quality (reads 85% moisture when in a glass of water?!). Maybe a fluke, maybe a sign of Rainpointโs new corporate priorities - data mining over product quality. So sad, they had historically provided good products. Suggest to avoid them going forward.

Make me and my plants happier
This is the only smart soil meter I can find on the market that has a display screen on the device itself,so I donโt need to use my phone all the time. Connectivity is stable. APP is easy to navigate and quite functional for plant owners. If wanna check remotely and record moisture level data via the app, buy the sensor + hub version and you can add many extra sensors under the same gateway. This is fairly useful if you have multiple plants or hanging plants. Otherwise, the sensor only version is good enough. I grow dozen of perennials and some veggies either indoor or in backyard and always forget which ones I have watered or not. To keep my plants alive and healthy is never easy! THIS SOIL METER DOES HELP A LOT! Now it is so easy to tell if my plants need a drink while I walk by or check on phone when Iโm away. The app allow monitoring moisture level changes over time,so I can adjust my watering plans accordingly. Have 5 of this for now, might get more later. The only downside is the probe is not long enough for some large potted plants. Other than that, this is one of the most useful plant care tool I've ever used. It does bring me peace of mind and keep my plants happier.

severe limitations for smart home integration
nice design and seems to work as expected BUT only with the Rainpoint Home app. Beware that the Rainpoint Tuya app also list this as compatible unit, but it is not working at all with it (confirmed with RP customer support). this is a major turndown for me because the vast majority of smart home gadgets are based on the Tuya ecosystem, so purchasing this Rainpoint unit will significantly limit your possibilities to expand and integrate with other accessories. I have a orbit b-hyve system that run on its own proprietary network and connects to the internet through a hub, similarly to this. However the b-hyve app has integration with Alexa and Google home, which makes a major difference for IFTTT automation schemes

Works as intended
Comes with the hub it needs so no confusion there. This runs out of juice faster than the the one without a display (of course). I just use rechargeable batteries and have it sent a notification/message to my email when the batteries get low. If you have multiple of these have you message include the number you lable it as (i forget if you write the message yourself or if its a pre-set/template)

Product works great. Alexa Application will mess up their Application tho.
UPDATE: After investigating our connection problems further, I discovered that our Alexa units scattered throughout our house connected to each wireless moisture sensor without permission! I believe this is another attempt by Alexa to collect more private information, and in doing so, they seem to have malfunctioned the RainPoint application on my phone, costing me four or five hours of time sniffing through the Alexa skills application to find the problem. Their Homgar smart application was screwing up the application. The Alexa group just turned it on us without asking. That is pretty rich! Enough is enough Hey Alexa, keep your hands off my private stuff unless I say it's okay! That was a small invasion of privacy, but seriously, STOP sneaking around inserting stuff into our programs and applications and slowing them down or fouling up applications that we want to use without Alexa's attempt to grab additional information. That's pathetic! I think it's about time to delete the Alexa application. Your intrusive behavior is not welcomed. CORRECTION, this RainPoint unit is a great product. Highly recommend it. Just make sure to delete or at minimum Disable the intrusive Alexa skills that forced it's way into their the RainPoint program.

Not working as designed!
Nice design, decent iOS App (RainPoint Home), small WiFi bridge that's easy to setup and connect to WiFi (2.4GHz only) and to sensors, as well as easy firmware updates and comes with a screwdriver to install and replace the sensor 3 x AAA batteries that are NOT included, but that's where the good things stop. The purpose of this device is to alert (and potentially trigger events) based on soil humidity levels and thats not working! The RainPoint Home App has "Smart Scenes" where you can setup events and alerts but they don't work/trigger. I managed to to get one alert to appear in the log section of "Smart Scenes" but there was no push notification or email sent out. Subsequent tests with the bridge and sensor in immediate proximity showed the sensor itself is detecting moisture (LCD showed 99%), but the bridge had no idea, created no log events, no notifications and no emails went out. That's a showstopper and defeats the purpose of the device. I emailed support with timestamped screenshots and pictures but don't hold high hopes. If support manages to resolve the issues I will return and provide an update...
