The Ramona Collection, Vol. 1: Beezus and Ramona / Ramona the Pest / Ramona the Brave / Ramona and Her Father [4 Book Box set]

Fun books. Good ol' Romona, her adventures, and antics are still relevant today in 2020. These books are rated for third grade (Scholastic says 2 to 4) and are a challenge for my 2nd grader. She still enjoys them and they motivate her to read chapter books. I read these same books as a girl and was a bit sad to find that the illustrations I remembered have been changed/updated. Not sure why that was necessary, but oh well, my kids will never know the difference. This set is nice and includes 4 of the Ramona titles but doesn't include key titles like "Romona Quimby, Age 8" or "Ramona Forever". I will order those separately because my daughter is asking for more Ramona. Can't recommend these books enough as well as just about anything from famous author Beverly Cleary. If you're trying to inspire or motivate your little reader, these are fantastic. I like that the author so perfectly captures traits and life of a child that Ramona could be real, making her so charming and relatable.

I hold a personal belief that every so often we should go back and revisit those things that were important to us in our youth. Whether it's picking up a copy of an album you haven't heard since high school or watching "The Breakfast Club" for the first time in 20 years, I think it's important to put yourself in touch with who we were. So, when I heard about the Ramona movie coming out, I decided it was high time to revisit some of these books, which were favorites of mine from grades 2-5. Not only was I surprised at how much of these books I remembered, I was also very pleased with Cleary's writing and the universality of the situations in these books. In many ways, they serve as a window into how kids deal with things from the perils of having a younger sibling to take care of to parental unemployment. The great thing about these books is that the messages are never heavy-handed. Cleary lets them unfold naturally through the characters, in particular Ramona Quimby and her sister Beezus (in this set, anyway). Some people may feel it's a waste of time to look backward at what made us who we are. I can't think of anything better to ground myself. And even more so, I'm incredibly pleased to find what good taste I had as a child. Highly recommended for those of us looking back and those looking to introduce their grade schoolers to reading. I'm glad I took the time. If you haven't read these since grade school, you should, too.

Still love Ramona & friends! Read them to my kids, now my daughter is reading them to my grandsons. Even with them being first published eons ago, the troubles Ramona finds are still very relatable!!

For 8 and under 9 yr old finds them boring but the books are great for younger readers

Great chapter books for newer readers daughter has not read all of them but she is able to read and comprehend the story line.

I just introduced my daughter to the crazy antics of Ramona! This is a well-loved book set. Only problem is the cardboard container for the set is so tight when all the books are in, that it is easily torn trying to get one book out.

My little one is a precious reader. We have been listening to this collection on audible for a while and she’s finally asked for the physical books. She can’t wait to get started and I’m excited to revisit them! We think Ramona is wonderful.
