Do the lights come on automatically or can you turn the lights on and off?

The lights do not come on automatically. There is a switch on the umbrellas pole.

Crank assembly broke, can it be repaired?

I am only a customer. Our crank assembly broke and we could not come up with a fix. I returned the whole umbrella through Kohl's and Amazon return program.

Can this be used in a Baja step in the pool without rusting?

No, It is not an aluminum pole as advertised. It rusted immediately.

Will this umbrella work as a stand alone?

You need a base for it to be a standalone. It doesn't come with a base.
