Iโve been using the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 (with 128 GB main memory configuration) for a while now, and overall itโs an impressive piece of hardwareโespecially if you value portability without giving up serious performance. First, the design is one of its strongest points. Itโs essentially a gaming laptop in a tablet form factor, which makes it extremely versatile. The detachable keyboard is convenient, and the build quality feels premium and solid. Itโs easy to carry around, whether youโre commuting or just moving between rooms. Performance-wise, this machine delivers. With 128 GB of RAM, multitasking is effortlessโyou can run demanding games, heavy applications, and background processes simultaneously without noticeable slowdown. Itโs clearly built not just for gaming, but also for content creation, virtualization, or any RAM-intensive workflows. Games run smoothly with high settings, and load times are minimal. Amazing laptop
Works great, really clean and plenty powerful. Battery lasts long enough for me, screen is crystal clear, and it's the perfect size. Expensive but 128gb of ram isn't cheap. Super powerful cpu and the most powerful igpu, that you can assign up to 96gb of ram to.

Good laptop that does what it says on the box
Performs beautifully after some tuning. Basically, a portable workstation that can also play games. Very sturdy construction. You have to be a little careful with the keyboard, though.

Great tiny gaming laptop, disappointed local AI server
Size and weight is light, and noise is in good control. Also its performance is great for gaming (around 4060-5060). However, compared with its ram size, its AI running speed is quite low, which makes it can run big model but in low speed. The quality of the screen is clear and beautiful, but its keyboard is unstable and wobbling when typing.

Great internals ruined by shoddy accessories and poor warranty support
While I would love to write a glowing review of the Flow Z13 that highlights its great performance, impressive cooling design, and great connectivity features, these truths are deeply overshadowed by a major design flaw. The detachable keyboard is clearly, physically broken, and ASUS wants me to send the entire tablet in to honor their warranty repair. I bought this product as a Christmas gift for my daughter, who just graduated high school and has already been accepted into a private art school, where they have already begun attending classes. The computer has been in light indoor-only use for only about six months, and they're actively using it for art projects right now. Because it was purchased for art usage, and the performance was primarily to run demanding creative applications instead of gaming, the detachable keyboard is frequently folded behind the machine or detached. When folding it behind the tablet, it disables the keyboard to prevent accidental keypresses. It does this after a short delay of a few seconds, but often this is enough for unintended inputs. My daughter goes back and forth between using the keyboard for typing assignments or navigating and using the computer normally and tablet-only mode for drawing, so they attach and detach the keyboard somewhat regularly. The keyboard is held on to the tablet body with magnets, and doesn't include any way to remove it except to pull the keyboard away from the tablet body entirely, no levers, pry points, or latches. This would be convenient, except that the keyboard uses a ribbon cable through a flexible bit of synthetic fabric into a plastic bar that houses the electrical connector (via pogo-pins) and also holds the magnets that align and hold the keyboard to the tablet body. That plastic bar is made of two plastic pieces, with the magnets, connector, and circuitry sandwiched in between before it is glued. The keyboard and flexible fabric piece are attached to the "bottom" half of the plastic, the tablet body mates against the "top" half of the plastic. Put simply, the magnets are stronger than the glue. It came apart during normal use and now most of the keys don't register. Some still do, like the volume keys, for some reason, but most don't register at all any more. ASUS will not allow me to send only the clearly physically damaged keyboard in for the warranty repair. I've been a happy ASUS consumer for years, mostly in components rather than whole systems. I've built up confidence that their PC components are good and their support stands behind their products, which is what led me to purchasing this _very expensive_ machine that my child needed to rely on for their studies. I no longer have faith that ASUS is capable of designing and engineering integrated consumer products, nor that they will stand by those products when there is clearly a design flaw that leads to component failure. I'm going to have to just buy another keyboard because this machine hasn't live through nearly enough of its life to justify replacing it entirely, and I can't take the tool away from my daughter that they need for their studies to send it in for who knows how long while they do... whatever they're going to do to the rest of the tablet body while the detachable keyboard is being replaced. I've made my last ASUS purchase. It's been a good run!

Great machine, highly recommend
Use this as a daily driver for Ai research and development. Have had for several months and use it every day. Absolutely love it and all the reviews about its capabilities are not hype. I installed CachyOS for the frequent rolling updates to ROCm runtimes as AMD improves them. I have used it to develop agentic memory systems and fine tune models without issue. Running local llms well has a learning curve, but this hardware is definitely capable.

Local AI datacenter on the go
Most reviews of the ASUS ROG Flow Z13 focus on gaming benchmarks and frame rates. This review is different. I tested this machine as a Local AI Workstation, pushing it to the absolute physical limit with Llama 3.1 70B, massive 128k context windows, and asynchronous multi-agent Python workflows. The verdict? The AMD "Strix Halo" chip inside this tablet is a monster that breaks the rules of what a laptop is supposed to be capable of. The "Killer Feature": 112GB of Unified Memory The single most important spec for Local AI is VRAM. NVIDIA RTX 4090 Laptop: Caps at 16GB VRAM. NVIDIA RTX 4090 Desktop: Caps at 24GB VRAM. ASUS ROG Flow Z13 (Strix Halo): Access to 96GB+ of VRAM. This is the game-changer. By adjusting a specific setting in Armoury Crate (or BIOS), you can allocate nearly all of the system's 128GB LPDDR5X RAM directly to the GPU. Real-World Impact: While RTX 4090 users struggle to fit a quantized 70B model into memory (often resorting to aggressive splitting or slow CPU offloading), the Z13 loads Llama 3.1 70B (Q4_K_M) with a full 128k Context Window entirely into VRAM. It feels less like a laptop and more like a portable Mac Studio Ultra or a dual-3090 rig. The Stress Test: "Scanner & Reader" Architecture To test the limits, I ran a custom Python compliance engine using LM Studio as the backend. 1. The "Scanner" (Llama 3.1 8B) Task: Rapidly chunking and analyzing 50+ sections of text. Performance: Blistering speed. The 8B model is so small relative to the 96GB VRAM that I could run AsyncIO concurrency, firing off 10 requests simultaneously with a batch size of 8192. 2. The "Reader" (Llama 3.1 70B) Task: Deep reasoning over massive 30-page blocks of text (120,000 characters per prompt). Performance: This is where Strix Halo shines. Loading a 70B model and filling a 128k context window requires ~60GB+ of VRAM. The Z13 handled it without crashing, processing massive contexts that would OOM almost any other consumer device. Loaded also concurrently is Llama 3.1 8B. The "Gotchas": It's Not Plug-and-Play Unlike the "It just works" experience of NVIDIA (CUDA), the AMD Strix Halo architecture is bleeding-edge. You will have to tune it. 1. The "Reverse Bottleneck" Crash I discovered that if you allocate too much RAM to the GPU (e.g., 96GB), you starve the Windows OS (leaving it only ~16GB). The Crash: Attempting to load a 42GB model file caused an immediate crash because there wasn't enough System RAM to stage the file. The Fix: I had to disable mmap in LM Studio to stream data directly to the GPU, bypassing the System RAM bottleneck. Alternatively, setting the GPU allocation to 64GB (leaving 48GB for System) provided the perfect stability balance. 2. Driver Quirks (The "pp buffer" Error) The AMD ROCm/Vulkan drivers are strict about buffer sizes. This is undoubtedly one of the best performance devices available. Amazing hardware quality, and not only for gaming, but all workloads are processed super smooth and hyperfast.

Powerful machine with a special cooling system
Very powerful machine and ideal for local LLM development, it will get hot when running LLM or playing video games. But unlike other typical laptop that the weight is on the keyboard side, this one is on the screen side. The good thing is that the keyboard is nice and cool. The cooling system is letting air flow from the back and out at the top, so make sure there are enough room from the wall, that said, do not cover the back with any cover.
