So far I'm loving the flyrod. I've never used any of the high dollar rods. But, this rod has good feel, action, and response in my opinion. The case is a nice touch. However, I do wish that the case had dividers built in as opposed to placing the rod in the fabric dividers then into the hard case. That's just me being nit picky and like the convenience of that type of case.UPDATE:I fell and broke my rod the other day. Insert pouty face! I sent MAXIMUMCATCH a message asking if I could buy a new section. They said send us a picture of the broken rod. So I did, and within minutes they replied with a tracking number! The service representative even packed the rod section him self! No cost! No questions! THEY'VE GOT MY BUSINESS FROM HERE ON OUT.

I purchased the 5 weight Maxcatch Black Star Series Fly Fishing Rod because I wanted a lightweight, but strong rod I could travel with. This 9 foot rod comes in 4 pieces. The 4 pieces arrived in perfect condition and fit together well and were easy to align. I love the look of this sleek and shiny smooth black rod that reminds me of the deep glossy lacquer finish of a fine piano. The rod was nearly flawless in appearance with only one visible mark on the finish that was slightly raised. This flaw was very small, the size of a pin head.The rod comes in a cloth bag with 4 pockets, one for each piece of the rod. This bag is then rolled and placed in a hard sided cordura rod tube with foam in the ends to protect the rod for travel. It has a secure zipper closure, carry handle and clear sleeve for ID. I've wanted a 4 piece travel rod that will fit in my luggage for plane travel for over a year, so I was looking forward to receiving this item and my first chance to try it out.The cork handle, said to be Portuguese in origin, is super-smooth and felt comfortable and secure in my hand when fishing. The grip looked and felt like it was of the highest quality. It is also very, very light. The build quality of this rod is easy to see and feel. I matched it with a 5-6 Maxcatch Graphite reel and Maxcatch weight-ward floating line. I'm working to improve my fly fishing skills, and this rod was extra easy to cast. I felt like I had better control of my cast and retrieve than my older 2 piece rod that I've been using. The rod provided good sensitivity to hits from even the smaller fish.I had only a few hours of time to spend at an unfamiliar lake on my first trip out with this rod. Work gets in the way of my fishing too often. However, this Maxcatch Black Star Fly Rod left me wanting to get right back out at my first opportunity. It's a strong and capable rod that I'm proud to own and look forward to using a lot.

Great rod appears to be made well. I paired it with a Redding reel.

Good fast action for medium sized smallmouth flies, combined with a 15’ intermediate sink tip. Turns over great, I’m well pleased with this rod.

I was trying this for an inexpensive rod replacement for a Wild Water combo. The reel seat components are very small, I couldn't get the reel on it very well, and the handle on the rod would allow the reel to move around the rod, left/right. Maybe it was just the one I received, but I did sent back and spent the extra $$ on the Fenwick Aetos. I did recently purchase a Maxcatch 3W combo that I really like so far. I will post on that one after I have used it a bit more. If you purchase this one you might buy it in a combo with one of their reels, but even looking at the combo I bought from them the reel seat is a bit tight on it, too.
