Fits perfectly; stand how-to needs reworking
This Otterbox fits my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4” tablet perfectly, as though Samsung made it too. There are clear directions on how to disassemble Otterbox, then reassemble it around the tablet. It attaches just like the one for my Samsung Galaxy S3. The fold-out hinged stand is ingenious, solid and sure. But the instructions for the stand need re-working/updating, though (or written more generically to cover future design modifications). There are supposedly 4 working positions for the stand, but there are only three (TWO, really, as explained below) for the product I received. Plus, low-angle drawings “A” and “B” (which show the stand near the short end) don’t match the product, nor do they match steep-angle drawings “C” and “D” (which DO match the product, which has the stand in the middle and opens up to the side). Since the stand is really at the middle/side, the only secure prop-up positions are landscape low-angle and landscape steep-angle. Portrait steep-angle works only if you don’t touch the tablet or look at it too hard – it’s that precarious! The tablet won’t even stay in place at portrait low-angle, because the fulcrum is in the wrong place at that position. But that’s not why I bought this otherwise great case. UPDATE: I've since discovered that a narrow ridge along the bottom of the top hard case prevents a 3.5mm audio plug and the USB charger cord from fully seating when inserted. As a result, you get no sound from external speakers, and the USB plug slips off the contacts easily if the tablet is moved. The no-sound phenomenon baffled me until someone at the store where my tablet was purchased confirmed that the tablet's external circuitry was operative, but that the problem was the ridge on the Otterbox case (see accompanying photos). I dismantled the Otterbox and used a motorized hobby tool to carefully grind small notches to allow clearance for the 35.mm plug's shoulder and the two horizontal ridges on the white USB charging cord's small end that plugs into the tablet. Success!

I tried plenty of others. This is the best for students (when you pair it with tempered glass). Instructions below.
I am a student who spends a lot of time using the Tab, especially for reading assignments. Unless you absolutely refuse to do anything to compromise the Tab's slimness, this case is the best one for almost everyone (with one major alteration). It fits snugly, the stand doubles as a screen protector (why didn't they post a picture of this?), and the clear plastic screen protector is passable. However, after a day or so, the clear plastic starts to form rainbow distortions between it and the screen. Other posts have more info on this. If you're obsessive like me about protecting the original screen, the way to get the best overall package is to combine it with a tempered glass screen protector. Here's what I recommend: I purchased the Skinomi tempered glass protector, which goes on great, is a perfect fit, and feels better to the touch than the original screen. However, taking the case's screen protector out makes the edges of the case flex when you place your thumb on it. The answer is to use the adhesive from the Otterbox screen protector. After installing it the tempered glass, I CAREFULLY pulled the plastic screen protector out of the case, then CAREFULLY pulled the adhesive from each side of the plastic screen and re-inserted it where it originally held the plastic screen cover. You don't have to do the top and bottom - just the sides. Put the Otterbox case in and...Viola! The screen looks and feels fantastic, and the case edges do not flex. THIS is the perfect setup, in my opinion. Takes some time, but it's worth it. Enjoy!

Awesome case for my Tab S
Awesome case for my Tab S. Fit and finish is perfect. I really like the feel of the tablet with this case on it. Yes it does add some bulk and weight to the tablet. With this case though I don't feel like the tablet is ever going to slip out of my hands or out of my lap. Not to mention if it does its very well protected. I've had several phones with otterbox cases. I've never had one fail on me and added bonus when its time for a new on. I get top dollar for my old device cause they always look brand new when you take the case off. Something that really surprised me was the cover/stand that comes with the case. I honestly didn't think I would use it because it would add even more bulk to my ultra thin tablet. Its actually pretty cool. It adds another layer of protection to the tablet and with the way its shapped the tablet feels really good in your hands with the cover snapped onto the back. As far as use as a stand. Its the best stand you could ask for. Nice flat base with rubber feet. The tablet is held in place very well at any of the three positions. I had a book style cover before I purchased this case. Using that as a stand just didn't work very well. It would fall over easily. And when standing the tablet up you where placing the soft inside microfiber face down on what ever surface. Doesn't take but a few bar tops or resturant tables to realize its not a great design. That microfiber liner soaks up any moisture, dirt, ect. Then you close your case placing that dirty fabric directly against the screen of your tablet... Con Now the reason I gave this 4 stars and not 5. Like I said I've had several otterbox cases. They always have cut outs in the front screen protector for buttons, sensors, ect. So this was no surpise. Don't expect a 100% sealed case. The problem I have with this case is the screen protector just stops at the top edge of the screen where the bezel starts.. So if you look at the picture that large cut out that shows samsungs name is all open. Not only does this leave a large opening for dust to get behind, it also means when you swipe from the top down your running your finger over the edge of screen protector. Its just a bad design.. The screen protector should have ran all the way up with just a cutout for the sensor. I'm sure this was to save on cost. But for the price of this case it shouldn't have this problem. I spend the money on otter box cases for the protection and warranty. The Poetic case sold here on amazon for less then 30 bucks doesn't have thiis design flaw.. On top of that it has a longer warranty. Despite that I'll keep my otterbox because overall I like it. I just hope otterbox is paying attetion.....

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! I always go with OtterBox if I can.
I can't praise these OtterBoxes enough! This is my second Defender series OtterBox. One for my 3rd generation ipod touch and now my Samsung Galaxy Tabs 8.4 inch. I absolutely love them both. I have dropped my ipod on cement from waist height and not had a single problem. I'm more careful with my tablet, though. I have dropped it, but not as drastically. Still no problems with it. I LOVE that the whole thing can be closed up to protect my screen! I, somehow, didn't catch that at first and my tablet flew out of my purse at a sudden stop. The screen did get a small gouge on the bottom left, but it hasn't bothered me enough to call OtterBox for a replacement. That, by the way, is an awesome company to do that. My husband has a 4th generation ipod touch and he had an OtterBox for it which broke. He called and said it had broken and they sent him a brand new one for free. What an awesome company! I kept my tablet safe at home in its original packaging when not in use until my OtterBox came. I trust their products to keep my device safer than I could. Pros It has two parts to protect my tablet It is very durable Has its own screen protector Has a kickstand in the "lid" or base (it does only hold the tablet in landscape view, not portrait) Cons The case does make the tablet noticeably heavier The spot where the headphone/aux jack goes is too small to fit. I had to do as another reviewer mentioned and take my ceramic knife to the plastic part on the jack and pare it down on two sides so it will go in easily. Or maybe you can find a slimmer cord end. There is no opening to get to the SD card slot. You have to take the whole case off. Not the end of the world, just an inconvenience. Overall, I LOVE it!

Solid Case with a Nice Outer Shell
I like the shell/base that snaps on and off. It fits tightly and can be placed on the front to protect the screen during transportation or snapped onto the back and out of the way during use. The fact that it doubles as a stand is a bonus. As others have mentioned, this base is useless holding the tablet in the portrait orientation but works well in the landscape orientation. The built in screen cover works as a temporary solution but scratches easily. Since there is no adhesive binding the cover to the screen an inevitable air gap reduces touch sensitivity and eventually allows dust and debris between it and the actual screen. I bought this hoping I could remove the built in screen protector and install a glass one on the tablet. The built-in plastic one came out easily and the glass one I bought fits nicely. I haven't dropped my tablet but I would rather do it with this thing on than without it.

Efficient protection, be careful to select the exact model of tablet when you order
It has a nice cover which I use when I'm traveling. The cover contains a little flip up stand which is useful when reading either portrait or landscape. In the portrait position you keep the base on the table and use the stand to support the top of the tablet. For landscape the entire tablet fits within the case top. The tablet has fallen several times when it slipped off the bed when I fell asleep. No harm, no foul. IMHO, it is a design flaw that that these tablets break so easily if you don't have a case such as this one. Be careful when you purchase this case that you have the exact model of 8.4 inch Samsung tablet. There are other Samsung 8.4 inch tablet models that have the camera holes lined up differently.

Durable, Fantastic, Baby-Proof!
Got this on sale and I must say it is worth the discounted price. It is true that dust can enter under the screen protector which is why you should open it and clean it after "rugged" use. I got this to make my device "baby proof" and so far after a few months use it has survived drool and drops from the crib like a champ. It's not the most perfect of protection, but it gets the intended job done. Fantastic quality from Otterbox.

Simple secure case, screen protector, and stand.
We really liked this case. Assembly was simple yet you know the tablet was secure. The attached stand made this a fantastic case for our little one to haul around and set up watching anywhere. The screen cover was nice at keeping grim of the actual screen and getting into the seems. Unfortunately, the case couldn't stop a direct foot stomp from breaking the screen. The case stand is still in use on our Amazon Fire.

An excellent, functional
An excellent, functional, aesthetic and tough case system. Have used it for S1 Tablet protection and hands-free viewing via integrated stand for years. Only one rubber corner is loosening slightly after years of daily use. Well done.
