PetSafe Guardian GPS Dog Fence, 3/4 Acre+

I have been a pet safe user for many years. When we moved into our new house in 2021 we explored fence options and went with the wired version of the pet safe fence. It was a pain in the butt to set up and took quite a while, and we had to buy a ditch witch in order to bury the wire and had to wait for the city to come mark the land before digging, but once it was set up, it was fine and it has worked relatively well over the years. However, in the last few months to a year we’ve had several breaks in the Line, And we were finding ourselves constantly having to fix the wires. This last time was the last straw so we upgraded to this one. I will say that the technology has significantly improved in the last five years. When we looked before there was not a version like this where you could easily manually draw your yard. The products that were similar were in the form of a central point with a circle fence, and would not work for our square yard. We did not want to have to limit our pets space or risk them going into our neighbors space. I set this up in 15 to 20 minutes, and put the collars on and my dogs are ready to go. The longest part was just waiting for the product to update the firmware. Now my dogs are already trained for underground fence so we didn’t have to go through that whole process again. I do recommend people take the time to go through that process. You’ll be happier than just hoping your dog figures it out. When I first started using underground fence products in the early 2000s I did not go through the process and my dogs would run past the shock once they figured it out. Taking my time and taking the full recommended several weeks of months to ensure they are trained is 100% worth it. I have two coonhound/hunting breed dogs and they do not cross the line to chase after anything including Deers, rabbits and turkeys that are frequently in our property. This product is very high-quality in appearance and definitely worth the money. The collar is lighter weight than previous. My only feedback would be that a better battery life for the collar would be appreciated. My previous dog fence collar had well over a month of charge. This one says it’s only about three days which will be an adjustment.

I really give this ZERO stars but this makes you put at least one. It was easy enough to set up and create the boundaries. We worked on the boundaries an entire evening walking the area numerous times holding the collar to be sure we had the flags (ordered those separate) in the correct place to warn our dog before the collar would vibrate/static. The following day we started walking her numerous times on the leash with the collar on vibration only showing her the flags and then getting her to come away from them using treats once we heard the vibration to help her understand that she does not want to hear that sound. I did this multiple times a day for the next 3 days with the collar/leash. On the 4th day we turned on the static option as well, walked her a few times around the area with her leash and she did good and all was working just as it had been. That evening while we were in the basement she went out the door to potty (25 feet from where the collar usually started vibrating) and it shocked her so naturally she runs yelping to me, in the house, and it starts shocking her again before I could get it off her. I understand that this is what the system is set up to do but it should ONLY do that when she is outside of the area I set up. How are you supposed to train a dog when the system is unreliable?! I requested a refund that night and sent it back.

Best GPS fence without subscription— I have a set up at my house and one on the farm for my 2 GSPs (German Shorthairs.) Easy installation and set-up; the app walks you through it. Zero problems. Great range; give hazardous areas more clearance (e.g. do not set the boundary directly beside a road. Use common sense.) Clean appearance with an indicator light. It’s expensive, but it beats having to install an in-ground system or an actual fence. Plus, you can change the fence anytime you need to and if you move, you can take it with you. The collars have multiple levels static correction and the collar will tone when it comes close to the fence border. I remove the collars to charge overnight, so no problems with battery life. Adding a new collar is easy too if you have multiple dogs— you can create a profile for each dog. You can use standard thickness 1” biothane if you prefer a custom collar appearance (I recommend Beau&Nora for custom biothane collars and leashes!) The quality of the collar is great, just cut off the excess. Overall, you won’t find a better or more affordable option without a subscription.

First and most important is make sure you use the correct prongs for dog. As a first responder I feel a great deal of shame and guilt for not knowing better and causing harm to my dog. We started out with the long prongs that come attached to the collar. They caused a wound on her neck very quickly. She did not wear it 24/7, only during the day or when I went to work (one shift) and only been using it for a week. I have swapped prongs and we will try it again when her neck heals but I will be paying close attention to make sure this doesn’t happen again. As far as the unit itself, it works great. I was able to create a boundary with ease for her that keeps her from getting to the neighbors house whom she has a mutual disdain for, she can’t get to the driveway as well but is able to explore deep parts of the property. She shares the property with another dog who also uses a different petsafe boundary unit and he can be a little much sometimes so she is able to leave his boundary and get away from him. I haven't experienced any issues with the transmitter but when I connect the collar in my home (which is a micro home) it takes a couple minutes for the collar to connect. Sometimes when she’s outside it loses GPS but it’s only momentarily and it’s right back. It hasn’t allowed her to get through. She’s very smart so she knows when it’s on and she’s restricted vs when it’s off and she’s free to roam. It only took a couple days for her to pick it up. I would still recommend this unit due to being able to create the boundary vs having a radius. But I strongly caution you to the prong issue and checking your dog daily when they first start wearing. The wound looks extra goopy because of topical treatment.

I researched several different types of collars before deciding on petsafe. I needed to create my own boundary while relying on a gps system. I also didn't have alot of money for the extremely expensive brands. I didn't want to install underground fencing. My only wish is that I would have bought this system sooner. It has been a God send for my two dogs. Both are over 50 pounds, and were constantly going into others yards, getting near the road and pushing their boundaries. I tried another system with a training collar before purchasing this one and it failed miserably. I have been using the petsafe gps system since June. I did not have to train my dogs with the collar. The static will go to a level of 10. I put both of theirs on 8. The collars beep before they hit the boundary and they know what that beep means. We put the collars on in the morning, leave the house without having to put them in their pen, and take the collars off before putting them up for the evening. Charge on the collars lasts about 3, sometimes 4 days. Fence boundary is very easy to set up. I have adjusted it several times when the need arises to keep them from going to particular areas. I really have nothing bad to say. I am very pleased with this system and the way it works.

spent 5 hours today with customer service trying to get the system set up before i was informed that if your dog goes under, say a porch roof by your house where you are likely to be, they can get zapped. or under a car port. pavilion. gazebo. or near your house with a clear view of the sky, in some instances. pretty much it is a great system if you would like your dogs to be able to run and enjoy spaces at least 25' from your house (or 50' if its a 2 story.) so, if you like enjoying your pups from afar, this is for you. if you'd like them to be able to come close for pets or treats (or to be out of the rain or beating sun), this isn't gonna work out like you'd wish. customer service chat folks were very nice, though - 5 stars. even the nice one i asked before i began this 5hr Odessey if porches, covered decks, car ports, gazebos, basements would be a problem for setting the system off and was told "no, all good"

This is a great product. But they need to go back to the drawing board when it comes to the material used for the collars. I have two duct tape my dogs collars for them to stay. Otherwise they constantly loosen. We live by an extremely busy road where the speed limit is 55 mph. And not only do we have cars we have farm machinery going in front of our house as we live in the country. Having to duct tape, my dogs collars to ensure that they stay at an adequate tightness because it becomes a safety issue. If it is too loose is not good. In terms of the way that the system functions we have over 10 acres of land that our dogs have complete access to and we have no issues. The collars work great.

This worked great at first and then it stopped working. We have a 1/2 acre lot and support is telling us this works best on lots 3/4 and larger. Not what the product info says. Now I have to see how too get a refund.
