30,000 BTU Electric Above Ground Pool Heater for 8,000 Gallon

Purchased the 58k BTU model for a 24’ x 54” above ground pool. After much research, this unit appeared to have the best performance, warranty, and value when compared to similar class competitive products. The unit was well packaged and appears very robust and well made with quality materials. It installed easily in a weekend with parts available from your local hardware. It is extremely quiet and can’t be heard over my 1.5HP Hayward filter system. It did leak at first start up. I found the factory installed water adapters were loose. They are designed to seal by o-ring, but I added some thread sealant anyway and torqued them down. No more leaks. Their customer support team is extremely responsive, which helped solidify I made the right decision. So far, the heating performance is as expected. There are many factors that affect how quickly the pool will heat. You also need to be grounded with the right expectation. If you want to heat your pool temp up by 20+ degrees in a cold climate within 4 hours, you’re wasting your money. Go get a gas unit and watch the dollars flows. If you want to be realistic in how much you can heat and how quickly, this is the perfect unit for you. The one thing that could be improved is the app. I would love to see them develop their own app to get similar function as what you get on the unit interface.

Purchased this 58,000 BTU unit (after returning a unit of another Brand) for a 12,000-gal pool. Included plumbing adapters are standard pvc sizes so installation was relatively simple. The control panel is easy to use and hook up to Wi-Fi. North Florida saltwater pool application, installed late February, outside temps starting to climb into the 70's with lows in the 50's. Pool temp went from 68 degrees to 78 degrees in the first overnight 24 hrs and reached 82 by the end of the 2nd day, only daytime heating since. Nice looking unit, sturdy envelope, not too heavy so I was able to position it without assistance. Consistent delta T of 3 degrees when engaged. For a heating unit, I will highly recommend. Waiting on Summer to see how the cooling functions. So Summer has come and almost gone now. The Chiller function worked well here. Unit kept my pool in the low to mid 80's effortlessly for the better part of the season. The pool reached 88 only on the hottest days when temps reached the high 90's for several days in a row and the sun was relentless. Didn't have to run the pump at night or try to shield the pool with my umbrellas. Still very happy with the purchase.

I ordered the 40,000 btu heater on a Tuesday at 6:00 pm. It was in my driveway the next day at 1:00 pm! (It shipped from a location 90 miles away, but still impressive!) It was packaged nicely in two heavy cardboard boxes with foam pads on bottom and top. I saw zero shipping damage. The shipper did leave it lying on the end - even though the box is cleary marked with a "THIS SIDE UP". This could be important since it has an oil-filled compressor. Just be sure to let it sit correctly oriented for at least an hour before powering it on. There are two handles built into the cabinet for easy moving, but it's pretty heavy. Not a big factor in my choice, but i did like the grey color better than white or black. The fit and finish on the cabinet is very good. It is a very nice-looking unit. It came with two 1.5" pvc adapters, so it was easy to plumb to my existing plumbing. I was also pleased to find that the power cable was already installed and ready to connect. It even had terminals attached but I cut it off to the length I needed. This made wiring to my existing breaker a 5-minute job. There is a control panel (thermostat) mounted to the side with a protective hinged cover. The control panel is backlit but the controls are a little cheap feeling and the icons are tiny. I would give it a 1/2-star knock for this, but overall I'm good with 5-stars. The control panel can be used to change the set point, set the clock, and change modes. You can also program a schedule, but i have yet to do that from the control panel. There also seems to be a troubleshooting menu, but I haven't looked into that. My favorite way to interface with this heater is with the wifi app. It's one of the easiest wifi appliance apps I've set up. You can control most features with the app from anywhere. It also has a query screen where you can see water temps, if the compressor is running, if there is water flow through the unit, etc. This could be a valuable troubleshooting tool. You can set up a schedule from the app, but it's not as full-featured in this department as I'd like. I tried the heater on the first night. The outside temps fell down to about 62F, and the water was 91F the next morning. We kept the solar blanket on overnight as well. By the 10:00 am the water was 93F. The outside temp got up to about 86F at peak. I then tried the cooling and it switched back quickly and started cooling it down. Our pool is in-ground 12,000 gallon, so it will take hours for a heater like this to make significant changes, but it seems to be doing what a 40,000 btu heat pump should do. This heat pump is VERY QUIET! The little noise it makes is a pleasant hum... .mostly just the fan blowing is what you hear. When in heat mode, very cool air is being exhausted from the unit, which could be good or bad depending on its location (vise versa when in cool mode). This isn't a ding, just a heads-up. I solidly recommend this brand. If I have any issues. I will update.

I bought two units (both 30,000 BTU) for my two outdoor Koi ponds (each is around 1000 gallon). I live in Seattle so the winter can be cold but not that crazy like eastern states but cold enough for my Koi to shiver 😛. One unit is still running strong after one year. The other unit keeps having problem with freezing in the back of the unit then stops working. I contacted customer service and was able to open the cover and swap the two relays according to instructions from the technicians and the 2nd unit is now running again. Super happy with the company, especially with the customer service support and dedication to resolve my problems. Would highly recommend this company for outdoor pool or pond heat pump.

Absolutely awful! Zero stars, No hook ups and we have a 6000 gallon pool. This is an 8000 gallon pool heater. It did nothing!! Not even raise the temp a degree. With it on over 24 hours!!

​I had a terrible experience with my initial unit, which is why I'm starting with a 4-star rating instead of five. The first unit was extremely inefficient; with an ambient temperature of 75 degrees, this 30,000 BTU unit ran for over 4 hours and only managed to raise my 6,500-gallon pool from a chilly 70 to a slightly less chilly 72 degrees. Worse, the app was defective—I thought I was turning the unit off, but it still ran all night without the fan, causing the coils to completely freeze over. ​However, my view completely changed because of varpoolfaye's fantastic customer service. After contacting them and explaining the issues, they were incredibly responsive and immediately sent me a replacement unit. The new heat pump works exactly as advertised! It heats the pool efficiently, the app works perfectly to power it off completely, and I have had zero issues with freezing coils. ​The replacement unit has been great, but the hassle of dealing with the first defective unit means I can't give a perfect score. If the first unit had worked like this one, it would easily be a five-star product. If you do happen to get a lemon, rest assured their customer service will take care of you.

The pool heater works amazing! I just purchased mine in July and I called their customer service and they were extremely helpful! They showed me how to set the control panel answered every question I had. It’s broken exactly how I wanted it too. Great product and amazing customer service!

Excellent customer service. Unit arrived damaged and within 2 days had a new one with 2 follow up calls to see how the new unit was working in the next 3 days. Also sent a pre paid return label for Fed Ex to pick up but I’m 10 minutes from a fed ex ground location so I just dropped it off. The unit itself works as expected. A degree or 2 an hour for heating. Haven’t tried the cooling yet. Would definitely recommend

The packaging of this product is very good, and the logistics is also very fast. The pool heater is very convenient to use, and the effect of heating water is very good and fast.

Love it!!! Best part: it runs on regular 120V outlet, however the current draw is near 15AMP max so don't plug anything else heavy on the same socket. Used it on average 2 times a week for 4 months on a 18ft x 9ft pool with no issues. We live in the Pacific Northwest so going from 66°F to a comfortable 84°F would take about 3 days of heating - 12 hours each day - in mid July. We got the heater up to as high as 94°F. Yes, you need to keep the heater running overnight and where we live the electricity rate is cheaper at night too.
