Are these ground from hominy or is the corn untreated prior to grinding?

As far as I can tell these are not ground from hominy. It doesn't say hominy on the package and it doesn't taste like hominy to me. I was disappointed. They are also "quick", cooking up in 5 minutes. I am using them up as a decent polenta or corn mush, but if you are looking for the southern hominy grit flavor, this is not it.

Are the grits totally free of tiny black/brown/gray specs?

These grits are pretty clear of those, but being stone-ground, there are some little specs. That is a normal part of grinding the corn and should not matter at all. The grits are great!.
