Arrtx Gouache Paint Set, 18 Colors x 30ml Unique Jelly Cup Design, Portable Case with Palette for Artists, Students, Gouache Watercolor Painting (Pink)

After trying both oils and acrylics and not really like either, I decided to try out gouache. I had seen this set in particular in videos on Instagram and YouTube and thought they looked really cute and of good quality, so I went ahead and bought the pink set. I did a little research before I used them before giving it a shot, and man, do I love these!The paints come in little removable gel cups, which you have to tear the plastic tops off of (this proved to be a bit harder than I thought it would be, but no biggie), and the cups sit in the tray of the carrying case. It also comes with a palette for mixing, which I thought was really nice even though I haven’t really had much of a use for it yet.I’ve seen other reviewers say these paints are decent, but not professional quality. Even though I’ve never used gouache before, I personally feel like this is a really good set that’s well above average for your money. I would feel just fine making sellable art with it. But that’s just me.I went ahead and attached two images, one of my first time using the paints on hot pressed Arches watercolor paper (the one with all the random eyes and sketches) and one on a Master’s Touch 8x10 wood canvas block. I feel that the paints go on much smoother on wood than paper, because with the paper I kept having to mix white with the colors in order to get them to go on smooth, whereas no white was needed for the wood, but then again, I suppose I could very well have been doing something wrong, haha. Even so, it’s just personal preference. I have not yet tried it on regular canvas as I’m not sure how the gouache would react to all the little crevices and I prefer a smooth, untextured look, but I would imagine they’d apply just fine.Even though these come as a compact set, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend them for traveling. I had packed these up, made sure the side flaps were locked, and drove 35-ish mins with them in my bag. When I got them back out, the set was on its side and the paints had leaked all over the place and dried to a sticky substance. HOWEVER, I HAD just used the paints so they were still wet. If I had either: A) let the paints dry back to their gel form, or B) made sure the set was laying flat when I took it with me. So it’s not that they’re *not* portable, it’s just that you have to be careful when you...well, port them.I’ve used mainly watercolor when painting my whole life, and these paints are the most unique I’ve used! They have the quick drying time of acrylics, the smoothness of oils, and if you use enough water, they behave like watercolors! It’s like they put the best qualities of all three mediums into one paint, and it’s great!In short:1. Yes, these paints are well worth your money.2. Yes, this set works just fine for on-the-go, but BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU TRANSPORT THEM.3. The colors are just as vibrant on paper as they are in the pictures.4. If you’re having doubts about getting them, just get them! They’re super fun!!Also, a side note: In order to get a smooth look, make sure you apply white to your brush. It gives the gouache a nice, creamy look. You’ll also need it if you want to blend more smoothly, which I assume is why they put two cups of it in the set. Happy painting!

Colors are vibrant and opaque, while still drying matte. They're easily workable and the inclusion of two white pans is a huge plus for me, as it's always the color that goes first! The palette itself is durable and well made, snapping tightly into place when you're ready to store your paints. At first I was concerned about the colors drying, but frankly there's so much paint that I don't see that happening anytime soon as long as I continue to spritz them with water and stir them a bit occasionally. Upon opening, there was a small bit of separation in the paints, especially the violet, so I decided to recombine them all with a good stir in the pan, and they were perfect afterwards! I'm sure you can use them without recombining, but that was my preference.The paints themselves are creamy and opaque, and I haven't had any issues with cracking where the paint is more thickly applied. The color payoff is amazing, these paints are very vibrant and seem to contain a lot of pigment. Overall, you're not going to get the same permanence and lightfastness as higher end brands like Holbein or Schmincke, but that's to be expected with student grade paints. My favorite aspect of this palette is the amount of paint in each cup, I often find myself being afraid to waste paint with my more expensive tube gouache, but that's not an issue at all with this palette.The amount of paint in the jelly cups makes this palette HEAVY. I personally enjoy the weight and find it satisfying, but I definitely wouldn't recommend it for traveling as it will weigh down your bag.Overall, this is an amazing palette for people who are learning gouache, and experienced artists alike. It gives you a genuine gouache experience, and lends itself to lots of experimentation without fear of wasting expensive paint.

I’ve been doing art for a long time (20 yrs) so I am no stranger to a lot of art mediums, but I have never used guache before. I was looking for something that wouldn’t be an expensive professional product but not a horrible beginner brand either. I can very happily say this was exactly what I was looking for!! You can tell when working with it that it’s a nice quality.I don’t feel the pressure of wasting the materials like I normally would high end brands, yet don’t feel like I’m playing with a children’s brand either. I would say it’s a nice art student level brand. Don’t fear wasting, as it’s hard to waste this guache. I’ve been using it for several months and am still far from running out. The color section is great! here’s not a single color I cannot mix together. It came with two cups of white, which I adored. White is one of those colors you tend to use A LOT of. The creators of this obviously kept that in mind.Although very brilliant in it’s casing, feeling very sturdy, it’s a little heavy to just bring around. Other than it’s weight, it’s pretty easy to take with you. It fits into a tote bag perfectly fine. I even traveled with it a few times on a airplane, although I kept it in my suitcase (not on my person). Very sturdy and compact casing, relatively easy to travel with.

Affordable Heavy WeightThis is a set that is truly practical for learning color and technique. It begs one to be greedy with the colors, to make mistakes, to focus not on rationing but to focus on the art itself. For anyone with a tight budget I would recommend this as a top choice for either their gouache or watercolor. As a personal note however, treat it with respect. This isn't some knock off but an honest-to-goodness opaque gouache which means it needs a thick paper to do it justice.Pros: Extremely affordable for the amount of paint you receive. Each 'jelly' cup is 30ml respectively and at least with my own set they were filled to brim. Also beneficial would be the fact that there are 2 whites and while the ad says that they are different shades I didn't find that to be the case. Or at least they both appear to be the same shade of titanium white in my set. Others might consider this to be a con but I'm leaving this in the pro due to my own quirks. Perhaps I show my lack of skills but I find my white gouache paint always seem to be the first to go when I'm using a set!The box, while plastic, seems very durable and the lid snaps loudly when taking it on or off. I feel very confident in moving the box around when the lid is secured. The bottom of the set reveals that each cup is nestled into it's own container. I appreciate the manufacturer's effort in this detail. It helps that the overall weight of the set keeps it from moving around on the desk.I've had the set now for almost two weeks and keeping the lid on is more than enough to keep the paints creamy and wet while those on my ceramic palette are very easy to reactivate with water and the dried paints have little cracking. I found the colors extremely easy to mix and there to be no muddiness even when combining multiple colors. And given that they are gouache; enough water gives them the transparency of watercolors. I've been able to easily switch in their use just as I would with any quality gouache.There is only a faint smell from the paints that fades with time; I found it reminded me of chalk. And while Miya has labeled it already on the product description I will still add it here given how nice it is that such an affordable set is also non-toxic.Cons: There is a plastic palette inside which lays over all the colors. It's a small issue but I don't like how the colors smear on the bottom of this palette when it's packed in as it's been designed. I'm sure as the level of the colors go down I won't have that issue but for now I've left it out and am using my own small palette.At the time of this review there is no way of being able to purchase individual color cups on Amazon. Perhaps this will change should this set gain in popularity. I have this as a con really only because of how fairly new this set is to Amazon. Other companies have similar practices. An example is with Arteza's Gouache Premium Artist Paints which are of similar pricing and also currently have no option in purchasing individual colors.Aside from the non-toxic information there was little else to go by. There was no light fastness or pigment information on the paints. Personally, I don't depend on this information but for others this may be important. Again using Arteza as an example; their gouache set at least provides light fastness on each tube.The last con I provide simply because Miya itself describes it as being suitable for travel. Being at least 2 pounds in weight I would have to disagree. It's perfectly acceptable for taking it from one classroom/studio setting to the next but I would not call it travel worthy. That said, I think it would be perfectly doable for colors to be scooped out and put into a more compact case if one were inclined.

I've never painted with Guache before, actually, I've never heard about Guache before I saw this in a youtube video. First off guache is amazing, especially in this format. The hardest part of art for me is the cleanup, and this cuts all that mess out. For most of my life when I painted I used Acrylic. I loved acrylic, but having to pour out paints each time I would end up wasting so much (which I hated). Also, the cleanup process was the worst, especially because it's super hard to wipe up dried acrylic. Last year I began practicing watercolor. Watercolor comes in pans which I need for my life and is much more travel-friendly (even though I never travel). But my favorite style is impressionism which is impossible to paint in the watercolor medium (at least for me who is a full amateur who just does this for fun and self-satisfaction.Then I found this. All the pros of watercolor (not having to pour and waste each time, easy to clean up because water reactivates it and you can just clean with water if you're that lazy, like me) and the pros of acrylic (opaque colors that I can use to paint an impressionist style with).The ONLY problem with this, the ONLY problem is that it isn't super travel-friendly. You want to know why? Cause it is so freaking huge. You get so much product (which is a pretty bomb quality I think but don't quote me on that because this is my only guache set) for such a cheap price.A tiny little student grade watercolor is still like $2 or $3 more expensive than this.If you're interested in trying a new medium, or if someone you know wants to paint you've got to buy this.

I know in China these are standard sets for art students to use for color composition exams. I have seen them everywhere and expected them to be little better than kids' poster paints. Boy was I wrong. I picked up a set just because I felt like playing with gouache and wanted to find something uber cheap. But these did everything I expected high quality gouache to do. These paints are bright, clean, pigmented and have excellent coverage and opacity. They are also very thick and I imagine will easily work with acrylic medium to produce a textured painting. Will thin down to a very nice smooth watercolor like wash too. I have used mostly M. Graham gouache before (MG is my favorite watercolor so I just picked up their gouahce), and these really don't feel all that much inferior to MG, maybe muddies a bit more easily in mixing, but really, inconsequential differences. Definitely the most bang for your 18 buck for art supplies.PS: the one difference between these and actual artist quality gouache is they are probably not lightfast. At all. It's not a concern for me since I don't sell/display originals. This is an issue for many artists though.PPS: found the company's official store. The price on Amazon is a little more than double what it is in China, which is fine, considering international shipping and how heavy these paints are. I do, however, wish the company can bring over more products than just the cheapest children's set. They have acrylics too! And look at the color chart for their 56 set gouache!

I have been wanting these for SO long, after watching what seemed like every single artist on Youtube try them out and give rave reviews, and I'm so glad I finally got them. They're every bit as fun as they seem, one of the rare times of the hype and promises of a viral-ish product holding up.They're just so fun to open up and play with. Opening the package itself felt like a treat, and I had so much fun just playing with the little containers and sorting the colors that it took me almost an hour before I actually started painting with them! The plastic case feels very quality, with hard, sturdy plastic that doesn't feel brittle. And it's ADORABLE. Seriously just want to keep it out to show it off! I would say the set has moderate portability. It's definitely fine if carried gently, but it's pretty hefty, and I don't think it would take to being put in a backpack and jostled around heavily without the colors getting all mixed up. So probably fine for going to a specific place or studio to paint, but not ideal for hiking and city-treking for sketch spots. I think if you let them dry and use them that way it would be an okay travel set tho, and they reactivate so easily that I don't think that would be a problem at all, if you prefer them dry.The paints--gosh they're fun! They're so smooth, and easy to use and mix and experiment with and they seem to do just what I want them to. The colors are vibrant and buttery and I had no issues of any being separated or needing mixing, they were all perfect from the start. I like the color selection too, and I appreciate that they've included a workable blue and red -and- a cyan and magenta, since I feel like you get very different results depending which primaries set you start from. I honestly think it's just the perfect color set for illustration, especially if you favor bright, cartoony colors, or pastels (which are super easy to mix, and I love that they gave two whites in the set). They also layer very well, so long as you don't overwork it and accidentally reactivate the layer beneath, and they dry with a smooth, matte finish that doesn't lose any particles or feel powdery if you touch it. And there's just SO MUCH OF THEM that I don't feel any hesitance in just playing around and actually USING them, rather than hoarding them back or feeling like I need to save them for a 'masterpiece'.I am an absolute gouache beginner, this is my first time ever using it, but gosh, I can already tell it's going to be my favorite way to paint. I love the look of regular watercolor, but the randomness of the results (part of the charm, I know) and the uncontrollably is just something I have trouble being spontaneous enough to really enjoy. While with acrylics I hate the way most smell, and the way they dry. This is the best of both worlds! You can use them thick like acrylics if you want, or super dilute them like pure watercolors. They dry fast, but reactivate easily so you're not waiting around forever for a part to dry before layering, but also don't have to worry about it if you need to step away for a minute. I noticed a very slight smell from a couple of the colors (one of the darker blues and one of the whites, specifically) but it's nothing like acrylics or oils, and dispersed very soon after they sat in the open air, so if you're weirdly squicked by art supplies that smell like I am, you'll probably appreciate that. They're just EASY and pretty intuitive to use and experiment with, which is great for a total newb like me, since it helps me feel more free to just play around and actually have fun, rather than worrying about doing it 'right'.Absolutely fabulous. The perfect paints to try out if you're curious and they're such an astounding value for the price. They'd make an absolutely wonderful gift for any artsy kids or teens you might be shopping for too. I can't speak for how they compare to professional level paints, or how they might be for those experienced in using professional-grade supplies, but I literally cannot imagine a better set for beginnings and intermediates.

I was curious about using gouache as a medium and I decided to pick up this set. I really enjoyed this paint to the point where I bought professional grade gouache.As student grade paint it isn't as opaque and it does dry chalky compared to professional grade gouache. However, this is a great paint to use for getting into gouache or for studies. It's very gummy in texture, fun to use, and you get A LOT of paint in each cup. The paints are really easy to rewet if it dries out and easy to clean up.This product is quite heavy so I would not suggest this for travel. The lid does help the paint not dry out but it doesn't protect against spills very well. You do need to store it flat.The paint does have a smell, but that is due to the Ultramarine pigment they use (Ultramarine is made from Sulfur).

I have wanted to buy this product for so long and it was costly on all other platforms and finally I found it in Amazon at such a good price. I’m very happy with the purchase.:)

The gouache is nice! Unlike other reviews that says the colours are very opaque... I found that a lot of the colours are more transparent than expected but just add a bit of white to it to make the colours more opaque. The case is sturdy, although the plastic "locks" on the lid looks like it's a bit worn out (like if you bend plastic many times and so it might crack). A lot of paint so and it feels nice to paint with so I quite enjoyed it. I have both student grade and artist grade gouache paints and this set is definitely a student grade one. I already have a lot of gouache but this is a good investment since there is a lot of paint and colours for a decent price, and recently I've been using this more since they're so fun and convenient to paint with.

The set is actually the arrtx set which is produced by the same company as himi I believe, still they are really good paints, nice and thick but still easy to blend with water. Very pigmented and can be reactivated once dried.

Love these paints. Highly pigmented, smooth and buttery, thin well and cover well. Easy to rehydrate, lovely to use.

There is a lot in the tub. Good quality.
