Japanese Origami for Beginners: 20 Classic Origami Models: Kit with 96-page Origami Book, 72 Origami Papers and Instructional DVD: Great for Kids and Adults!

I decided to go with this book to start my origami journey because I have bought books on Japanese culture and language from Tuttle and always found their books very helpful and professional. And I’m so glad I chose this one! I personally really enjoyed reading about the history of origami, being a Japanese culture/history nerd, but you don’t need to bother with that part if you don’t want to, though it will explain why some models are significant. I chose to start origami as a hobby because I’m an autistic adult who has no interest in any fidget toys, but I enjoy the texture of paper a lot, so that, combined with my love of learning about Japanese culture and language made it the perfect hobby for de-stressing. I went into this book with no prior knowledge or experience of origami, and bought some extra paper along with the kit in case I needed to try things a few times. I started at the beginning of the book, and have been folding each project in order. If you do that it becomes clear why the book is structured the way it is. You get used to doing each fold in the easiest way possible as you go along. You might think “why would I want to fold a tiny paper piano/cup etc” but each piece teaches you folds and symbols for the more impressive but difficult models further on. When I came to leave this review I was surprised to see there were negative comments and reviews, because as a complete beginner I managed to make each model on the first go with the exception of the desk. I made a mistake and had to do it a second time but I’m happy with the result in the end. I get stressed when going to new sites or videos sometimes (A me specific symptom of my autism and OCD) so all the pictures I included just used the book’s instructions, and they’re all first attempts (apart from the desk) 🙂 if you take your time the instructions are super clear. And this book really does a good job of explaining each fold, with pictures every so often just to show you how your model should look at that stage. From the glimpses of other origami books for beginners I looked at this is very rare, but helpful. If you’re like me and prefer learning from books than videos, then I really recommend this book as a starting point! *the models I made are made from other origami paper printed by Tuttle. I bought extra before starting to allow for mistakes

A brilliant starter kit with clear step-by-step instructions. The paper quality is good and there are enough sheets to practise each design. Suitable for both children and adults who are new to origami.

Origami is about patience and precision. It teaches you to follow instruction and create each fold accurately as you go… being ‘that’ll do’ doesn’t work. I am really enjoying the patterns in the kit. Included is a selection of short, easier models and some harder, many stepped shapes to challenge. The paper included, means you can star t straight away. Sometimes I found the instructions difficult to follow, but I quite enjoyed working it out for myself. It’s a good way to unwind.

High quality paper with lovely designs. Easy to follow instructions. Lots of variety with gradually increasing difficulty. Perfect set for origami beginners. Comes in an attractive box so makes a great gift.

Never did origami before. Great for a beginner. Starts off simple and gradually gets more difficult. Some of the folds were difficult for me to work out but YouTube is your friend!

Purchased as a 1st anniversary gift. Family gathering to mark the day. Fantastic. Kept us entertained for hours. Some of the more challenging designs were hysterical.

Pretty paper, nice book, color, good directions. Everything you would need to make several of the designs. I purchased for middle school youth. We had a good time with the kit and everyone was able to complete at least one thing.
