As he takes on the mantle of Captain America, Sam Wilson soon finds himself in the middle of an international incident. In a race against time, Sam must unravel a nefarious global plot before the true mastermind has the entire world seeing red. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers. Review: Captain America: Brave New World - DVD - Great movie but I missed Chris Evans. Lots of action and questions answered. Review: Enjoyable movie: Anthonie Mackie as the new CAPTAIN AMERICA as well as Joaquin Torres as Falcon!!! - I enjoyed this movie a great deal...Anthony Mackie does a great job assuming the role of the new CAPTAIN AMERICA with a sidekick in Joaquin Torres. The movie moves fast, and is very action packed. I highly recommend it!!!

Fun, but Often Balancing Too Many Plot Threads
Julius Onah’s 2025 film, “Captain America: Brave New World,” follows a screenplay by Onah, Rob Edwards, Malcolm Spellman, Dalan Musson, and Peter Glanx. The film picks up following the events of the Disney+ television series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” as well as continuing on from the “Captain America” and “Avengers” films. In the story, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) now works as Captain America and is aided by Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), the new Falcon. They find themselves drawn into a spy game following the election of Thaddeus Ross (Harrison Ford, replacing the late William Hurt) to the Presidency and the geopolitical ramifications of the discovery of adamantium in the Celestial Island left over from the events of Chloé Zhao’s 2021 film, “Eternals.” The film sets up a race for resources with Japan and the United States as the largest players in the contest. President Ross and Cap have their own rocky history, made all the worse when a trigger sets off Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) at a White House reception, forcing Cap to help capture his old friend while also figuring out what the President is hiding. The film introduces Sidewinder (Giancarlo Esposito) and Copperhead (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson) as members of Serpent, thereby using an early story idea for the third Cap film before it was changed to “Civil War.” While other Marvel projects have hearkened back to Louis Leterrier’s 2008 film, “The Incredible Hulk,” hoping to demonstrate the importance of the second entry in the MCU through cameos in Destin Daniel Cretton’s 2021 film, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and Jessica Gao’s 2022 Disney+ series, “She-Hulk: Attorney at Law,” Onah uses “Brave New World” to tie together the most threads from “Incredible Hulk” with Thaddeus Ross’ prominent role, the return of Samuel Sterns (Tim Blake Nelson) who had his brain exposed to gamma in “Incredible Hulk,” and a brief cameo from Betty Ross (Liv Tyler). Just as “Civil War” was both a Cap film and an Iron Man film, “Brave New World” is both a Cap film and a Hulk film. At times, the political thriller elements struggle to hold suspense since the film’s marketing gave away several of the biggest twists. Harrison Ford gives one of his best dramatic performance, imbuing the character with more pathos than William Hurt had been able to do in previous films (not due to a lack on Hurt’s part, but because of how those prior films used the character). For his part, Anthony Mackie continues to demonstrate why he was the right person to take up the shield and become Cap. He shows mercy, compassion, and introspection even as he’s delivers fantastically choreographed and athletic fight scenes. Shira Haas rounds out the cast as Ruth Bat-Seraph, who Onah reimagines as a former Black Widow. Changes to the character’s origin and costume help with some of the controversy surrounding her inclusion given current real-world events. Further, the character’s initial debut in the “Hulk” comics adds to the role of the Hulk mythos in this movie. Unfortunately, the film doesn’t make her a mutant and thus misses the opportunity to use both her inclusion and the appearance of adamantium to further lay the groundwork for the X-Men. Overall, “Brave New World” is an enjoyable film with Anthony Mackie shining as Cap, but the film struggles to balance several subplots and could have used the political thriller elements to greater effect as an allegory for our own political situation. Ford’s portrayal of President Ross and the parallels to “The Manchurian Candidate” work particularly well. This Blu-Ray/4K steelbook is a great way for Cap fans to add this film to their collection. It includes featurettes about Anthony Macke’s portrayal of Sam Wilson over the years, a look at Sam’s greatest foes, a gag reel, deleted scenes, and audio commentary. I do wish there was more about the effects both practical and digital as well as an inclusion of art cards like Marvel has done in the past. The art on the packaging is particularly nice and recalls some of the current posters for John Frankenheimer’s 1962 film, “The Manchurian Candidate.”

Well worth a big bowl of popcorn
The acting is great. The store is a lot better then I was expecting. The setting, background is interesting and inviting. As the movie started I was expecting it to roll out as a simple conflict between evil beyond imagination against heroic power but that is not what the story lead the viewer into. There was a lot more internal conflict then I have expected to see in a Marvel movie. I know some dismiss the movie, but I really liked it and recommend lots of popcorn.

Entertaining
This movie is better than the box office would suggest. I'd recommend purchase if you collect steelbooks and are building an MCU collection.

Mid, patchwork MCU entry; Good for superhero action on a rainy day
I was really rooting for this MCU entry. I have always liked Sam Wilson as a character, but this film does him no favors. The plot feels like a mishmash of ideas, none of which really come together. It retreads ground that Falcon and the Winter Soldier already covered, and less pointedly. There was a real story here about the perception of a man of color as Captain America, and Disney dodges it completely, to the detriment of the emotional core of the film. Side characters seem superfluous, plot threads dangle, and this often feels more like a sequel to The Incredible Hulk (with no Bruce Banner) than a Captain America sequel. Still, there are some solid action set pieces here, and Anthony Mackie and Carl Lumbly put in good performances. Not essential Marvel, but worth a watch on a rainy weekend afternoon.
