How to boil eggs when there is auto shut-off feature?

Put the lid on sideways. Bypasses the auto shut-off.

Is the exterior of the kettle hot when water is done boiling? Does it whistle?

The exterior gets pleasantly warm to the touch, but by no means "hot" as in too hot to handle. Speaking of handles, the handle doesn't get warm and I typically lift the pot up from the base while the water is at a hard boil. It does not whistle, but if you're in the room you'll hear the gentle rumbling of the water when it reaches boiling. if you're out of the room you won't hear it. Which doesn't matter because it has an automatic power-off after a few seconds of full boil. As you may be able to tell, I love this kettle - it's pretty and lightweight and the water never touches plastic. Have had it for several weeks and use several times a day.
