Taking apart a perfectly good controller requires a bit of a deep breath. The process itself was quite methodical. Following a guide, I carefully disassembled the unit, keeping track of all the tiny screws. The replacement plastic parts felt solid and well-moulded. Everything fitted together correctly, with all the screw posts lining up without any force needed. Once reassembled, the controller felt robust, with no creaks or gaps between the panels. The buttons retained their original tactile response, and the thumbsticks moved smoothly. During use, the feel in the hands is unchanged from the original, just with a completely different aesthetic. Seeing the internal workings through the transparent shell is a unique touch. It was a satisfying little project that resulted in a personalised piece of kit that feels just right during long sessions.

This shell kit looks so much better than the original controller, with the added benefit - in my opinion - of doing away with the rubberised panels for a more traditional feel. The kit includes everything you need to perform the conversion including a selection of small screwdrivers and a prying tool. It is a relatively simple procedure which although it helps to have a little experience with this sort of thing, would not be difficult even for a novice. All the pieces are very well made and I had no issues with getting everything aligned and fitted together.There are a few colour choices, I think this clear black looks great.The only slight negative I could see was that the buttons don’t have any markings on at all, I guess this was a choice of design over practicality.Priced at just over £24 (£27 with 10% voucher) this is a top choice to revamp your controller.
