Plenty of hot water
I purchased this as a reconditioned unit. The GeoSpring water heater was installed in the garage and is being used by two adults for the past 2 years. It works flawlessly, produces plenty of hot water, and has made a noticeable difference in lowering the monthly electric bill. I have the unit set in hybrid mode - the heat pump will work unless the temperature of the garage gets down to the low 40s, then the standard heating elements kick in. Over the past two winters, this has happened only a dozen times, but we live in NC and don't have the long cold winters like up north. As other reviewers have stated the heat pump fan is fairly loud, but since its in the garage we can't hear it. This was a great purchase for us, but make sure you have the proper location to install it. Ideally you need an isolated area with adequate room and air circulation, like a basement or garage. Also be aware of the extra height and weight of this heater.

This water heater is not worth the money. We purchased and often it will run out of hot water for just 2 people taking normally long showers. We have a salt conditioning system so I know it is not our water. At just over 3 years old it gave us the nice suprise of not even powering on and now I have to call GE. The cover parts for 10 years but not labor and it requires their technician (not just a normal plumber) because the unit includes a heat pump. Again, after 3 years of light use this unit is dead. Don't walk away, run.Okay had one other edit here that is not showing up. Called for service which is now under a different company bradfordwhite.com. First guy I talked to who was a supervisor supposedly was going to send me 2 parts. Asked to speak to his boss, insisted actually, The next guys said he was going to overnight me three parts. Thankfully I had insisted because the first guy was only going to send me a Hi Limit and temperature sensor when what I actually needed was a main control panel and circuit board. It obvious this main panel has been completely redesigned as it now does not have any fuses. Also the bracket that holds it in is so different that it does not fit squarely. I will have to attach with duct tape. I paid a plumber $125 to install. IF I had listened to the first guy I would have had to pay the plumber twice and been without hot water for a full week. Now working we will see for how long.

Poor performance. High repair bills.
Bought this product nearly 8 years ago. It was a bear for installers to fit. It’s huge. Runs off the compressor and heating elements. Sounded like a great idea at the time. But the compressor isn’t durable and the elements are quirky. The money saved in energy costs is blown with one repair. I should have known that of most AC manufacturers can’t make a durable heat pump a water heater company can’t. Getting it repaired is a pain in the butt. Most AC guys won’t repair it.Regret the purchase and wish we had gone straight to a Rennai.

Awesome
Nice product however GE and Brilliant aren't manufacturing the ACM Appliance Communication Module to get the most out of time of use pricing. I'd give 4-5 if it came with all the accessories to optimize energy use especially during my power companies critical pricing periods.

Overall a good Product
I have had a Geospring for 2 years now and overall I like the product. As an HVAC contractor I know how this product works and there are a few ways an installer can get into trouble.1) If you transport the box on it's side this can cause the compressor to blow out. The reason why is because the oil in the bottom of the compressor will seep up to the top, and once the compressor is activated it will over pressurize very quickly. Therefore, the box should always be transported upright.2) Always install the product in a location that gets outside air. Even though the manual says this I have often seen many plumbers install this product in closets or utility rooms anyway. The product will not work properly unless it is installed in a garage, attic, or basement.3) Make sure to always install the product with the proper clearances. Again the manual says to install it so there can be airflow around it but many times I've seen installers just strap the tank right up against the back wall. The moral of the story is that as long as it is installed right, I everyone will be as happy as I am with my GeoSpring.

I installed this as the input of 135 degree water to a low boy 50 gal tank that maintains the temp. The Geospring is set to run in the heat pump only mode and this set-up works great. I looks as though it is significantly lowering my electric usage. If it is as reliable as my conventional water heater, then it will be a real winner.
