Question 1

why does this have 900+ mcg of folate when 600 is recommended only?

Accepted Answer

Thank you so much for your interest in our prenatal vitamin and for your question. We actually have a few very important reasons to include 900+ of natural folate. As of 2017, the USPSTF reaffirmed its recommendation from 2009 that pregnant women or women planning a pregnancy need to take 400 mcg - 800 mcg of folic acid a day to prevent neural tube defects (a birth defect) in their offspring. This actually means that any prenatal vitamin without at least 800 mcg of folate is insufficient by industry standards. You will also notice that most of the good quality reputable brands have at least 800 mcg of folate. We include a little bit more because as many as 70% of women have a genetic polymorphism (a fancy way of saying a genetic mutation) in the MTHFR gene. This gene dictates how someone metabolizes folic acid into folate and when this genetic variant is present, the folate needs for that person increases. Women with MTHFR typically do not have specific symptoms and since not every doctor tests for this, it often goes undiagnosed but the chances of neural tube defects and other pregnancy side effects like miscarriage can increase! This is also the reason why we only use L-mehtyl folate (the most natural, methylated folate) in the form of Quatrefolic so that it is not only easier for the body to absorb and works for anyone, including those with MTHFR (where synthetic folic acid would be very contraindicated). If you are one of the 30% of women who does not have MTHFR, the little bit of extra folate will only help and never hurt, especially because our folate is in its most natural and activated form so there could never be any possible overdose or excess unlike with synthetic folic acid. We want to make sure that our prenatal is going to support all women with the most optimal levels of each nutrient based on the latest research so that you can have healthiest pregnancy and baby. We hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Question 2

Lots of bad reviews is it as good as people say?

Accepted Answer

I have been taking for two months just before I go to sleep and feel great! I also take their brand’s DHEA omega 3 supplement and have no complaints! It would be great if it were one pill instead of four in a serving, but other than that it is a great, high quality vitamin with no added and sketchy ingredients. I have endometriosis and was looking for a whole food supplement with no soy wheat or dairy and pure folate- this one comes packed with all of that and more!

Question 3

Why doesn't this contain iron?

Accepted Answer

Great question! An iron-free vitamin is one of our secrets to no nausea and a smooth stomach! We intentionally left iron out because when iron and calcium are taken together they bind to each other cancelling each other out. Resulting in neither being absorbed and causing harsh side effects. More women are deficient in calcium than iron. Elemental iron is harsh on the stomach and usually causes nausea, constipation and heartburn. It is hard for the body to absorb iron from a vitamin. Iron is best consumed in food! If a supplement is needed, iron should be taken in the evening with vitamin C to aid in absorption. Warmly, Inna and Kristin

Question 4

Does ginger extract (10:1) processed with ethanol? What kind of extraction process (steam, cold press etc) has been used?

Accepted Answer

Our vitamin doesn’t not contain ethanol. The ginger is whole food dried. No extraction process
