My hair is 3A/3B with more textured areas around the hairline, color treated and its THICK. I have previously used other high end, more expensive keratin treatments at home: but this one is great. I did the preparation and treatment and had left overs on both ( below shoulder length hair and did I mention thick...🙂) A little goes a long way. It is time consuming, but not hard to apply at home. The gel did not burn my skin as others have before and the smell was as expected of any chemical treatment. When blow drying and flat ironing the fumes become stronger but not unbearable. I wore a mask and had a fan on in the bathroom- when the fumes caught my eyes wrong: I just stepped out and went back. Nothing you can't handle. The results are beautiful! I waited 3 days before washing ( did flat iron in between if needed) and with a minimal effort blow dry and so much less products- my hair is frizz free and straight. In the past- tying up my hair, sleeping on it, or exercise would frizz and dent my hair and require a lot of effort with a flat iron to re straighten; not anymore. Rain/humidity frizz on the top of my head- gone. A quick flat iron in the morning and I'm out the door. Customer service was amazing with helping me choose a product and answering all my questions. I would highly recommend trying this. A bonus: get the easy comb for hair straightening- I don't know how I have gone this long in life without it.

I have loved all of the Keratin Research products that I have tried. My favorite part of this one is that you don't have to comb through dry hair. One of the bottles is used on the dry hair, then combed through (unlike their original products) which makes the process much easier for those of us with kinky curly hair.The fumes are still very bad on this when straight-ironing after applying the solution but I haven't found a single product that works that doesn't have the terrible fumes. I use a couple of extra fans in the bathroom while doing this and if you have goggles or a breathing mask, they might also be helpful in avoiding the terrible fumes. But all the Formaldehyde-free formulas I have tried just don't work with my hair. They have been a big waste of money so I am stuck with the formaldehyde.So why does it get five stars? Despite the terrible fumes of the straightening process (and I've had it done many times both in a salon and at home) it is way worth it to me to endure an hour of bad fumes to have fabulous, silky hair for months. Each time I've tried one of the Keratin Research products, it has lasted for 3-6 months. If you haven't tried it yet, I might recommend starting with this product because I really liked the preparation treatment that makes combing through dry, unconditioned hair unnecessary.Also, an extra pro with this UltraGel FX was that my hair stylist accidentally used a shampoo with sulfate on my hair and it didn't seem to affect this much so while I wouldn't recommend using a shampoo with sulfates, its nice to know that if you accidentally get some once this is strong enough to not all be washed out by one mistake.Update 4/23/18: My first treatment with this lasted really long and I was really pleased. Each subsequent treatment seems to not be as effective and lasts a little shorter, so I am removing a star. I am finally returning to the original Keratin Research formula and think I might alternate the two as my hair seems to have become resistant to the straightening effects of UltraGel FX but did great when I switched back to the original. I'm hoping that by alternating the two, I'll be able to get the best of both since they both worked fabulously for me the first time.

This is the third brand of keratin treatment I have tried over the last three years and this one really made a difference. My hair is a little wavy but thick course. It was blond that is now mostly gray and very frizzy - basically feels like straw when wet and looks like it dry. It requires lots of product and oils and then a straightener just to be presentable This product was a reasonable price and enough for very thick below shoulder length hair I followed directions perfectly and made sure to have a digital straightener at 450 degrees. After waiting 3 days to wash and going over it each of those days to touch up the straightening. I have washed it a few times over the last 2 weeks Using no sulfate hair products. Now I can let it air dry and not hate it. It’s much less frizzy and feels great. and with a quick use of a straightener ( before i had to go very slow with very small amounts of hair ) it is smooth and silky even without using leave in products !!! Unbelievable I hope it lasts because the process to apply is pretty tedious and strong fumes but again worth it !! For now it seems like it does what it says it does

Worked great with my fine, thin hair. I have had keratin and Brazilian blow out done professionally multiple times a few years ago and this product has the same effect on my hair. Mixed it with some developer as recommended my manufacturer because of my untreated hair. And there is plenty in the bottle for multiple applications for my handful of hair.

Great DIY keratin treatment. I will buy this product again.

This was my first time using Keratin research line, after the recommended wait for 3 days the results faded by 80% after first wash. would return to my previous brand for bkt.
