Dr Zooch Flying Model Rocket Kit 46 Orion EFT-1 This kit is the Orion exploration flight test 1, or "EFT-1" launch vehicle. As a part of the developmental flight testing for the Orion multipurpose crew vehicle, an orbital flight test is required. In order to accomplish this test, which has to be done long before the larger Space Launch System booster will be ready, it was decided to place the Orion atop an Evolved Expendable Launch Vehicle "EELV." Using it the Orion will be boosted into an elliptical orbit with a 5,000 mile apogee. After two orbits it will be driven into the Earth's atmosphere to test the heat shield. This mission, which is to take place sometime in 2014, is being called the EFT-1. Our kit stands just over 17 inches tall and flies with our Dr. Zooch FlameFins. This is a single stage rocket that uses 18 mm engines such as a "B" or "C." It is parachute recovery and designed for builders of an average skill level. The kit includes realistic EELV tank wraps and custom milled balsa nose cones.
