My aunt loves this cup. She has dementia and was having difficulty lifting her drinking glass. She is doing much better.

Ordered for a family member with dementia and dysphagia.7 am visually impaired and thought this cup would release a small amount of water at a time. Instead the cup requires sucking. She does not have the strength to pull on it. I believe her caregivers purchased a much less expensive toddlers cup which allows them to control the sip size.not

I was very disappointed that this cup leaked / dripped thin liquid (like water, coffee, apple juice) Anyway I took the lid off and put back on, different placement, cleaned the cup lip and lid, still dripped. $36.00 and it leaks!

I received the item and it was perfect for my dad. He controlled the liquid. He was swallowing to prevent him from choking.

It works but it started leaking after a month of light use. Now it drips all over the person I purchased it for 😔. Unfortunately, I recommend you shop elsewhere.

Amazing product, especially for seniors who need to be careful and more at risk for drinking fast or getting pneumonia.

This is a wonderful product. Can set at 5cc,or 10cc I use it for my elderly parents who's are aspirating While drinking, heads up you still need to thickener for liquid

For an expensive medical device advertising a 250ml capacity and 5 or 10 ml dosing options, I expect it to achieve exactly this. Sadly, in my testing, the cup was unable to achieve it. Using the white adapter, I got varying results from 5 to over 10 ml at a time. There are many crevices that are extremely difficult to reach even with small brushes for cleaning straws. Cleaning in the dishwasher you mean losing half of my utensil tray capacity, and I'm not sure how well the small pieces will hold up in the utensil tray long term. Given the price, difficulty cleaning, and failure to accurately regulate this is an entirely underwhelming product.

I got this cup for my father. He has RA and consequently his hands are severely deformed, affecting his ability to eat and drink, unassisted. Cognitively he is smart as a whip. I say that to point out he is not using this cup with any intellectual difficulties. The handles on the sides allow him to grab the cup. That may seem obvious but without handles he cannot drink unassisted. The 5ml or 10ml inserts are necessary due to the delay in his ability to pull the cup away from his mouth if he can't tip it down from his mouth before he needs to. So far this is working well for him. This cup is well made. I'm sure it could withstand being dropped multiple times, like a child's sippy cup as the plastic is strong. I'm not sure how long a device like this can withstand the high heat temperatures of an assisted living facilities dishwasher. I would like to point out the cost in a drinking aid, such as this one. I can appreciate a lot of research goes into designing one of these cups, but I have a hard time swallowing (no pun intended) $50 for something like this. Many people who desperately need something like this simply can't afford it. I would love to see the price of this cup come down, or perhaps on sale periodically.

My title is not a criticism, and my hope is that this helps someone, but I want to have that professionally assessed, and my opinion is that it's best to consider checking with local speech-language pathologists before using this item or providing it to someone. So, I can't say 5 because I don't know what 5 is when it comes to dysphagia cups. So I'll start at 4 because of what I will say. Also: I'm only going to comment on basic build quality.. I'm not going to comment on accuracy or whether this might be good for any individual--I don't know. But there are trained people who do both, test for accuracy and make authorized recommendations, so I'm going to ask them because I work in a related field. My hope is that this will help someone, which is why I got it. So, apart from what I'm not qualified to recommend, the build quality looks A-OK to me for a dishwasher safe assistive item. It's not fancy, but it's strong, and I'd expect good durability. I didn't place the extension on the mouth opening because I want to leave that to the pros to check, but I can say, because I checked, that it's going to be a tight fit, at least--and that's good. I can also say that this product appears to use technology/design elements--and to have a build quality--common to many other competitor's "dysphagia cups", and it looks to me to be an even competitor on those grounds. So, I'm optimistic and I have a soft spot for companies that build assistive items.
