Will this work on uk 240 volt ac system?

It is a 120 V / 60 Hz unit. You would need a converter. I would check with the manufacturer about a UK 240 v unit.

does it have auto shut off?

Yes it does. I love this grill. I can grill a perfect medium rare steak in 7 minutes.

The grill's app instructs that chix breasts be cooked at 230, but you can't set the temp at 230- only 215 or 250. Did I receive a defective product?

That's almost certainly 230 degrees *Celsius* (not Fahrenheit!) 230C `=450F. I actually slow roast meat all the time & at even lower temperatures, great results but can't be done on an open grill! At 230 F you'd need to use a closed oven & it would take > 3 hrs.

What plates come with the unit? Just the grill plates or does it also include the flat plates for things like eggs

One package they sell has just flat and grill; another has both of those, plus waffle plates (I have the latter)
