When should I introduce the e-collar in training?

Introduce the e-collar after manually teaching your dog the command on a leash first. The e-collar is meant to reinforce commands, not to teach them from scratch. Our included training manual will walk you through this step by step.

At what age can I introduce the e-collar to my puppy?

Training with the e-collar can start when your puppy shows they reliably understand commands but is choosing to not listen. This varies, but typically happens around six months. Keep sessions short and fun, always ending on a positive note.

Are e- collars safe for my dog?

Yes, when used properly, the static setting on a quality e-collar is a safe and effective way to reinforce commands. It's comparable to feeling a static shock after rubbing your socks on carpet. Most people can barely feel the lower levels.

What level should I use to train my dog with?

It’s important to use the lowest effective level when training. Your dog should never jump or vocalize. Look for a slight head turn or ear twitch to know your dog feels the correction. This level will vary depending on the level of distraction.

Can I change the settings on the FieldTrainer 425X?

Out of box, this system will deliver tone when the dial is on V/T & low, medium, and high levels of static for each number on the dial. The button functions can be easily adjusted if you’d prefer to train with vibrate or need to train multiple dogs.
