ANOTHER UPDATE! I'm putting this down to 3 stars for a couple of reasons. Cuisinart DID send a new carafe, but for some reason, it does feel more fragile than other carafes. AND, this carafe stains easily. Most carafes just take a rinse and wipe with a paper towel, but this carafe is stained already, and I haven't used it for a week yet! I did some research on why it was staining so easily, and it appears all glass is NOT the same. Some absorb stains easier, so it has to do with the glass used and how it's made. It could also have to do with the design. I realize now that I'm not fond of the coffee basket either. I just use the paper filters in the cone shaped coffee holder. Since I can't put the cone shaped coffee holder on the counter and fill it with the coffee due to the shape, I have to fill the coffee holder while it's in the pot, and I'm spilling coffee. At first, I thought I'd get used to using this, but as the days have gone by, I'm getting annoyed at losing coffee, since I use heaping spoonfuls. Also, I have to take the lid completely off to rinse it, where most carafes come hinged to the carafe and are easier to rinse and dry. Honestly? The less expensive coffeemakers will make a decent cup of coffee. I'm not as impressed with this as I thought I would be. (UPDATE: Upgrading to 5 stars!!! After I emailed Cuisinart and sent them this picture, they got back with me quickly and will replace the carafe. GREAT customer service!) I have had this coffee maker for 2 whole days. It makes wonderful coffee! I love all the bells and whistles too. I wash the carafe by hand each night and dry it with a paper towel due to hard water stains. Tonight, I set it on the edge of the sink, (gently as with all the coffee carafes I've had), and the bottom of the carafe just shattered! There was NO reason for this to shatter so easily. I didn't buy the warranty, but I did contact Cusinart and asked for a new carafe. IF they send me one, I'll upgrade the review. I can still use an old carafe with the machine, but due to the size, I cannot use the 'sneak a cup' function. In my humble opinion, this is not worth the price. It looks nice, is easy to use, but I have had some cheap coffee pots in my day, even dropped the carafes on the floor, and they stood the test of time. This carafe shattered for no apparent reason on day 2??? Rethinking the pricey stuff...

This is a great coffee maker. Makes perfect coffee . Easy to use and program makes 1 to 14 cups in about 15 min. Comes with a reusable filter .Very easy to clean and pot pours smoothly. Only downfall is the top of the carafe does not flip up like others so you have to fill it through the hole. Other than that I really like it. Looks beautiful with my other stainless steel appliances.

I purchased the gunmetal stainless steel model, the grey color is very nice, goes with all my grey accessories quite well. Its a very attractive coffee maker. The plastic parts, which are black seem thin, cheaply made and poorly put together. I've used Cuisinart coffee makers for decades and this is cheaper made than the others except for the metal decorative areas. I used the "bold" button and it does brew slower than normal but its definitely a bolder coffee flavor. I only drink black coffee so this was an excellent feature. Temperature setting for the heating plate is nice too. Overall I'm very pleased with the look and function but I have concerns about its construction and durability. I would say the price is a bit high for the quality, but it seems you're primarily paying for the upgrade metal surfaces.

The "gunmetal" is plastic garbage for a significant price upcharge. I can't speak to whether or not the "stainless" is actually metal or just a color, but this feels like a $20 coffee maker that I paid $140 for so....it's being returned. Also, the specs are wrong. It is not 12" high it is 14 3/8".
