How many calories in just the coffee?

Accepted Answer

The coffee by itself has no calories, but I should note that the Bulletproof system asks for both one tbsp of butter,  one tsp of their High Octane Brain Oil, and a scoop of protein powder.  Just to help a bit, one tbsp of Kerrygold butter is 100 calories, and one tsp of Brain Octane Oil is 130 calories, and one scoop of the their protein poweder is 60 calories... and the fat from these products is considered 'good' fat, and we only have one cup of the mixture once a day, and the rest of the day only the coffee by itself.   I hope this might help a bit.  This information is available through Bulletproof, I think, so there is a source directly from them to confirm or add to your concerns about calories.

are the beans oily?

Accepted Answer

Our coffee will not have that oily surface that most consumers have come to expect from big chain, dark roasted, coffee. This is a single varietal, highest grade, coffee which is roasted only to a medium roast level – with the specific purpose of bringing out the best of the character in the coffee. If it is roasted darker (which brings out and for quite a while holds an oily, shiny, surface) customers would be tasting the roast rather than the uniqueness of the coffee. Any roaster can buy average green coffee and over roast it – that’s common and an easy way to mask marginal coffee. So, it is expected that our coffee will not be shiny or oily. It’s not uncommon for someone used to dark roast to believe a single varietal is stale because it is not oily or shiny – which is quite the opposite.

How is the mentalist bulletproof coffee different from the original bulletproof coffee? i don't see any comparison of the blends.

The mentalist is a darker roast which will have a more robust brew strength and flavor.
