ALMOST plug n play
Carb went on my 13.5 perfect fit, got it all bolted on, getting excited to fire it up & the Rod (threaded screw) that goes down in the carb, about 7" long & fastens the air filter tray to the carb ........did not fit, turns out the hole in the New carb is much smaller than the hole at the bottom of my Old carb. - After searching the net & getting nowhere, I then drove around town to 2 different mower shops & a guy sold me an old used screw that fit. - If not for the frusteration concerning the screw hole being different-Id rate it a 5 , but it was very stressful & troublesome finding the screw that fit. So IM rating a 3 . But if you can get the newere smaller screw rod, you should have no problem.

JUNK, DO NOT BUY. NOT THE SAME AS THE STOCK CARB
I OWN AN OUTDOOR POWER EQUIPMENT REPAIR SHOW THAT HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS OR 45 YEARS. BEFORE REPLACING WE REMOVED THE CYLINDER HEAD AND VALVES AND THEN WE DE-CARBONED THE HEAD AND VALVES. THE VALVES WERE LAPPED IN AND YHE TAPPETS WERE ADJUSTED TO THEIR STOCK SPEC. AS FOR THE REPLACEMENT CARB THIS CARB ARRIVED DIFFERENT THAN THE STOCK CARB IT WAS REPLACING. IT HAD AN EXTRA ADJUSTABLE MIXTURE NEEDLE VALVE ABOVE THE MAIL JET ON TOP OF THE CARB NEXT TO THE IDLE MIXTURE NEEDLE VALVE. WHAT IS DOES I HAVE NO IDEA AS THERE IS A HIGH SPEED MIXTURE VALVE ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FUEL BOWL. ALSO THE HOLE IN THE CARB WHERE THE LONG AIR CLEANER SCREW GOES WAY TOO LARGE SO I HAD TO INSTALL A 10-32 INSERT INTO IT TO FIT THE SCREW. AFTER WE INSTALLED THE CARB AND AIR FILTER WE FOUND THAT THE SMALL AIR CLEANER SCREW WAS LOCATED 1/2” AWAY FROM THE ORIGINAL THREADED HOLE. ONCE WE STARTED THE ENGINE WE COULD COULD NOT STOP THE ENGINE FROM SPITTING AND BACKFIRING EVEN AFTER ADJUSTING THE HI SPEED NEEDLE VALVE PLUS THE ENGINE WOJLD NOT IDLE ANY LOWER THAN 2000 RPM NO MATTER HOW I ADJUSTED THE IDLE MIXTURE VALVE. THIS CARB WILL BE GOING BACK FOR A FULL REFUND BUT I AM OUT TWO HOURS LABOR AT $90.00/HR MESSING WITH THIS JUNK CARB.

Needed a drill press to make this work
Like other reviewers have pointed out, this is NOT a direct replacement for the carburetor on the 281707 engine since the air cleaner stud on the 281707 is a 1/4" 28 fine thread. Both holes on this replacement carb are drilled to #10 - 32 fine (which is the size of the air cleaner bottom plate retaining screw). So, not having a tap and die set in my tool box, I had to go buy one then drill out the hole and tap it to the proper size. I gave it 2 stars since, once I re-machined it, the thing ran perfectly without any adjustments.

OUTSIDE LOOKS SAME, JETS DIFFERENT!
This is supposedly a universal 10-12.5 HP B&S carburetor. It's not. Jets are different for each engine size. This one worked for about 30 minutes on my 12.5 until it leaned out and died. Trashed motor. Took out the Jets and compared with old carb: completely different.
