Understanding Criminal Law

On one hand, I'm loathe to write a good review for Dressler because his textbook is written so poorly that you're basically forced into buying the supplement. However, I would not have survived crim were it jot for this supplement, which explains all the concepts really well and would be useful for any crim class.

I’m a 1L law student and this book has been immensely helpful in my criminal law class. If you’re a student or even if you’re not a lawyer or plan to be one, this book gives you the breakdown of the substantive criminal law. Great read!

This book breaks all of the concepts down very simply. This book also separated out the MPC to the back of each chapter so that it was relatively easy to find and contrast with common law.. If your professor is going to teach MPC you will be thankful for the organization. Definitely, a buy if you are 1L or simply interested in getting a very deep dive on the topic.

If you are using the Dressler criminal law text, BUY THIS BOOK. It is an amazing reference preparing for finals, when you need these tough concepts broken down and cases summed up. What a godsend. If I get an A on my crim exam, I’ll be sending Dressler a love letter.

I bought because my doctoral thesis has to do partially with U.S. Criminal Law and I sincerely recommend it to anyone interested in the subject. First, it offers a really complete analysis on major topics of U.S Criminal Law, and second it offers an interesting list of references to other books and articles in case you wish to expand your knowledge on particular issues. It's worth every penny!

This book saved me during my 1L crimlaw class. Dressler does a great job delineating model penal code from common law. If it were not for this book, I’m not sure how things would have turned out.

Helped me understand crimlaw and was very easy to read. Included MPC. Highly recommend. I rented but ended up buying.

Really explains the nuances of Criminal law into digestible and concise points. I highly recommend this book for any law students.
