Flavors Dog Food Topper, Chicken Recipe, Non-GMO, 3.1 oz

Sounds pretty dramatic, right?My dog is old and has kidney disease. Kd screws with taste buds, and they become picky eaters. Not eating leads to weight loss and dehydration, which just make Kd progress faster. Vets argue on whether it's the *amount* of protein or the *quality* of protein in their diet that matters, so some will push for the prescription diets that cost as much as rent, and some say it sort of doesn't matter because they become so picky that they usually won't eat those special diets anyway. (I imagine it's like me attempting to live off of diet meals forever, and...no.)It took 3 months to find the right foods and ratio of these foods and how to prepare them to find what my dog will now eat fairly consistently without getting an upset stomach and still provide complete nutrition. I can mess with ratios a little bit, but it's mainly cannedfoodflavor1/cannedfoodflavor2/plaingroundturkey, sprinkle with this stuff, add a bit of water, microwave 13 seconds, smush into a gross paste. He eats, on average, 4x/day this way. Before I figured out his secret recipe, he would skip meals, sometimes for 2 days. Thought I was going to lose him. I did lose his brother in this process (his brother had Kd and heart failure).At his last check up, the vet said his kidney markers haven't really moved. And he even gained some weight. Not sure how long I have him for, but this stuff helps him keep eating (I also sneak crushed meds in there, and he's impossible to pill). I like that this stuff is really only bone broth, not a bunch of chemical crap, and cheap compared to the bone broth purchasable for human consumption.I feel torn rating the flavor here, as clearly my dog loves it but it smells abhorrent to me, as it's always mixed with other mush.

I can't comment on the taste but my dog seemed to be ok with it. There are cheaper toppers but I used this one as it seemed to be good according to reviews.

These food toppers are a total hit in my house! My dog is usually super picky with her kibble, but once I started sprinkling a little of this on top, she cleans her bowl every time. The different flavors keep things interesting, and I love that they’re made with natural, grain-free ingredients.It’s so easy to use — just shake a bit over her food, and she instantly gets excited. The bottles are a great size, the packaging is cute, and it’s nice to have all four flavors to switch between.If you’ve got a dog who turns their nose up at regular food, this is definitely worth trying.
