Are these safe for walls? Especially if I decide to remove it.

You didn't mention what kind of wall surface: Drywall? Cement? Brick? Wood? Stained? Wallpaper? I will assume you meant painted drywall. These are vinyl letters with adhesive backing but not adhesive backing as would be found on double-sided sticky tape. You press it on and it sticks, for a long time, but it is very easy to peel off with a fingernail or blade. With that being said, although it is not strong enough to pull off paint or sections of drywall, like any chemical adhesive, after a lengthy period of time, there might be fade of wall color because the paint beneath the letters will have been masked from light, but on its own, it will not damage your physical drywall and leave a divot or peel the drywall seal layer if you remove it. Prepare to be diligent and patient while applying it to the drywall though, especially egg shell or higher quality of paint. It's not a simple "hand smooth and peel" process. You perform those actions but you have to do them slowly and deliberately, sometimes per letter. The application can be frustrating but the end result is great if you get it right. There are negative comments from people but likely they just did not take the time to clean the surface prior, peel slowly, burnish the vinyl per letter, etc. There's no way you can screw these up unless you're someone who doesn't enjoy putting effort into things -- just my opinion.
