Toxic Avenger: A must see/own movie
What cannot be said about this fine example of a film that has not been said before? If you are like myself and many others who crave cinema that provides escapist fantasy that doesn't have the jackwagons of the "Hollywood Elite" preaching to us on how to vote, how to live our lives, and all around be ashamed of who we are – then this is the motion picture for you! Does it have a large supply of cuss words – yes. Does it have a plethora of extremely disturbing violence and deaths scenes of scum receiving their just comeuppance – yes. Does it have an overwhelming abundant supply of gratuitous nudity from the chest up complete with bikini tan lines that only 80s action films can deliver – OH MY GOD YES! From the many topless scenes that would make one reminisce of the first time you stayed up late and snuck out to see Porky's while your parents slept, to the over the top action scenes such as in the taco restaurant where the bad guy gets him arm ripped off and beaten with it while his bad guy buddy gets shoved into the fryer and cooked to death, to yes you guess it even the cheesy campy dialogue, this movie has it all and is a true hidden gem and cinema masterpiece. So what are you wasting your time reading the rest of this review, grab the popcorn, crank that stereo to eleven, and call it a date night!

Tasteless.
Campy, extremely violent, cliché. The extremely brutal death of a child on a bike by two lunatic couples is tasteless. The movie tried so hard to make bad people so evil that it became unbelievable, not that Troma movies go for believability. Even a little old lady gets killed as she is the leader of a white slave ring. They stressed the white part. It's details like that that paint a picture for their audience about whites and slavery that ends becoming a perceived truth decades later. Not a forgettable movie but not a positive influence either.

Long Live the King
The first film in this franchise is still the best.I came to Troma because of Toxic Crusaders. Like many in my generation, the odd cartoon cash-in based on the R-rated film was perhaps an odd jumping on point. From the Saturday morning cartoons I found this head popping, joke-heavy, body-morphing film. The tone is strangely similar to the cartoon despite the R-rating.The other three movies in this franchise are fine but this has the best story and effect combinations.

The KING of Schlock Horror!
This is one of my all time favorite "schlock horror" (along with "Return of the Living Dead" and any of Bruce Campbell's "Evil Dead" series) movies! Yes, it's crude, absurd and hysterically low budget, BUT it's that "cheesiness" that puts the schlock in "schlock horror"!This tale starts out as your typical American Horatio Alger story, with the hard-working "Melvin the Mop Boy" (a janitor at a local gym) taking daily abuse that culminates with his being chased out a 2nd floor window into a vat of toxic sludge. It's HERE that the story veers slightly off course and our "hero" ("Toxie") is born, as Melvin morphs into what Gene Wilder's Victor Frankenstein character from "Young Frankenstein" would call, "A 7 1/2' tall, 350 pound GORILLA!" What's more, Toxie's got a conscience...coupled with a mean streak (probably enhanced with some roid rage). It's a compelling combo and Toxie goes on to wreak havoc on corrupt little Traumaville, NJ.If you like schlock horror, you'll love this one and if you don't know what schlock horror is..."The Toxic Avenger" might just hook you.

The film is borderline half-assed at best.
I don't like the Comedic Cliche's there are a constant riddling humor about getting hit in the balls. This occurs all to frequently. The Aggressors of the film are terribly written and make it seem like it is a mockery of superman criminals at best. The love story is horrific as well. There is barely depth. It is hard to Imagine that this took too long to make up and produce. The most costly thing must have been the props because the actors certainly didn't do well in this film. I can understand why others think differently, however, I am entitled to my own opinion.

I look at Janitors different now.
Haha woo. This is some brilliant filmaking at its finest. 80's films are always the best because unlike today, was very little CG effects. All the effects here are practical, which in my book makes better art. A lot of heads blowing up. It was marketed as a campy super human movie, (cant say heroe due to international copyright laws) and it dilivered that. I love the beautiful blind chick, its like they're making fun of that elephant man movie with Cher. Dont know if they were but it comes off that way sometimes. i.e. blind chick with monster. The sex scene made me utterly sick. Its like its so gross that you cant stop watching, a lot like crap online. Toxic Avenger ranks up there with KickAss, differenf type of humor but with the same spirit. Hey if you like this movie check out BioCop, its pretty sick. I have again been Tromatized.

Still a classic in 2021
I watched this back in college around 1987-88, and my friends and I loved it. My son is now a sophomore in college and I shared this gem with him over winter break. He loved it as much as I did! What fun to revisit this incredible, so-awful-it's-brilliant schlock fest. An all-time favorite! Troma Films rules.

A gross cult classic.
This is one of those movies you always used to see on the shelf at the video store. I never got around to seeing it until this year. At only 79 minutes it doesn't take long to watch, which is good because it's a gross B movie. However, it is a pretty good gross B movie.

Great film but make sure you get the US version
This film is a classic with some really great comedy and gory scenes in it. Only be sure to get the US Director's cut release because that is uncut while the UK release is edited for violence. The US Director's cut is also region free which means that it will play on your DVD player or games console with no problems. On top of that it also includes lots of cool extras from Troma so if you're a fan of Troma then this will be an essential purchase. All in all a really awesome movie that is certainly not for kids unlike the old TV series.
