Good read and very useful training information
While the information is somewhat dated due to its publish date, but it is a solid read for anyone looking for knowledge on how to body build. Nothing better then learning from the greats.

This is probably one of the best books I have read regarding weight training
This is probably one of the best books I have read regarding weight training. At my age, I have not interest in trying to compete, just learning the routines and techniques.

We cannot forget Joe Weider!
Joe Weider has had many detractors over the years; from being called a ruthless business man to being "the godfather" of "bro science", he has been named everything in between. Some of his criticisms may have merit behind them but, personally, I respect the man- based on what I know. As far as I can tell, he never tried to portray himself to be anything he wasn't. He didn't hide the fact that he had a financial interest in bodybuilding; everyone knew he was the publisher of Muscle&Fitness, co-founder of the IFBB, etc. And- contrary to what many of his detractors say -he didn't claim to invent all of the Weider Principles(a few, yes)-he simply took credit for naming them and cataloging them into a system of guidelines for aspiring bodybuilders. These were based on observations he made in "the trenches", watching champs train and interviewing them on their methods. For his overwhelming contributions to bodybuilding and fitness, his memory deserves more respect from trainers and trainees alike. Now, onto the review:I think you will be pleasantly surprised when you read Bodybuilding, The Weider Approach. Joe is engaging, humble and- for the most part - his routines are pretty sensible( if a little on the long side). His coverage is comprehensive, too, answering all of the questions newbies tend to ask(proper breathing, etc.). In fact, he tackles the beginner level through to the professional level, concluding with a top pro detailing the differences between his off season and pre contest cycles. A cool feature is the annotated bibliography he provides, detailing, summarizing and reviewing his sources(it may inspire you to check out some other old titles- I'm sure many can be found here on amazon). Being that this book is dated, it's beneficial to have some more recent books on the subject as well(for example, Robert Kennedy's Encyclopedia Of Bodybuilding from 2008 is very good). Having said that, however, much of the information in The Weider Approach is applicable today and the majority of his principles are timeless; in fact, many have been scientifically validated- check out these articles: Remembering Joe Weider: The Science of The Weider Principles by Jim Stoppani on bodybuilding.com and 6 Lessons Learned From The Master Blaster by Brad Schoenfeld and Bret Contreras at t-nation.comBottom line:If you respect the history of this sport and want the insights from the man who basically created it, get this book. I think Josh Bryant- in his own excellent book, Built To The Hilt(2014) said it best: "Joe was a true pioneer, the founder of modern bodybuilding, and he has done more for the sport than anyone. We cannot forget Joe Weider!" Amen.

Back to the basics.
I first used this book in the early '80s as my bodybuilding bible. Times have changed a lot since then, but basics are basics, and this book covers them. There are some excellent examples demonstrated by a young Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Forignou. I like it.
