Use threads sparingly
I ran out of two of the colours which for a reputable company actually disappointed me. I am always careful and not wasteful with the threads. As a kit aimed at beginners extra thread should be included. I am actually not a beginner- just got these small kits to while away lockdown time during the corona virus situation.

thread instructions
This is quite an easy pattern on the face of it. However, it leaves very little spare Aida as the stitches go to within two squares of the aida supplied, and as it is a large count it frays very easily. My wife bought this for a friends disabled daughter, as she loves bright colours and is really interested in trying to make something. However, it isn't clear as to whether you split the thread into two strands as is normal with ordinary cross stitch, or use the thread as it comes. The thread itself is a bit "woooly" and not like the Anchor thread I was expecting, but we will give it a go. I will let you know which looks better, splitting the thread or using it as it is.

Not complete kit, not enough threads to complete
Had read reviews saying there was not enough thread to complete the cross stitch. I though with such a well known company this couldn’t be right, maybe others had been wasteful so I watched my daughter carefully use each piece of thread with no wastage! As you can see from the pic she ran out of pick thread before she’d even started the head. There’s no way this can be completed with the thread provided. Amazon sent us another kit so she could complete it but they shouldn’t have to anchor should provide what’s needed. Had 4 pieces of brown string with only 4 cross stitches to do with that colour but the same amount of pink string to complete almost the whole body and head!! Disappointed.

An alternative to the Xbox
I bought this for my seven year old grandson who wanted to do some sewing after learning the basics in school, he loved it. It has kept him quite for days the concentration needed to coordinate the stitches through the holes helps his eye to hand coordination and has stimulated his creativity. If it came with more of a frame to hold onto as you stitch I would have given it five stars as it is it is bit flimsy and difficult to hold. This said it has proved to be a well like but slightly quirky present for my grandson.

Good pattern for beginners but not enough thread provided
I really like this kit. The pattern is perfect for a first cross stitch. However I would have no idea how to cross stitch based on the instructions provided though- they are useless. I used YouTube videos and family guidance to learn how to do it. Also there was only enough light blue thread for the head of the elephant. So now I need to try and find another lot of matching thread for the body. The kit doesn't give the code for the thread either so I can't buy the exact same one. There is way too much dark blue thread provided for the amount needed for the pattern. Slightly frustrating

Lovely, but a little tricky for a first attempt at cross stitch.
These are lovely, I bought the dog, cupcake and owl sets for my 12 year old daughter for Christmas to get her into sewing. However, they are counted cross stitch NOT those with the picture printed on the material so they are quite tricky for a first attempt at cross stitch. When I learnt to do cross stitch I bought a kit which had the design printed in colour onto the fabric so all you had to do was sew the correct colour in the correct place. As these are advertised for beginners, I assumed that this is what they would be but the fabric is totally plain and you have to count the stitches to replicate the design. My daughter got a bit fed up with it after a while!! I'm hoping that she will come back to them in the near future!!

The picture was not printed into the plastic work .
This was supposed to be suitable for 6 years upwards. It is difficult to r children of that age to count out the spaces to start the stitches. If the picture had been printed onto the plastic or canvas it would have made it easier. The child doing this cross stitch for first time it unable to do it themselves and loose heart quickly.
