This is a wonderful machine. It took me a little while to get the hang of it but all the other posts helped me out. It really is easy to use. My problem was that I didn't know when the oil was supposed to start coming out. So I didn't wait long enough. Now I use the raw setting for the flax seed and it is quick. I make oil about three times a week.

Is 145 degrees oil still considered coldpressed?
The other 2 reviews (especially the first one) pretty well covered all the basics, so I won't repeat that. However, maybe we can add our experience to help others who might be searching for a machine to produce cold-pressed flax seed oil for the Budwig diet, which is what we bought this machine for. It is very important to read all the instructions. They are not the best and must be read very carefully to understand them, any way they were for me. They do not stress enough why and how important it is to keep any metal from touching interior of hopper. It blew a fuse for us.First of all, we had a problem with getting the glass lid seated properly, because the instructions do not mention there is a tiny white button in the rim of the hopper where the lid sits that has to be depressed for the oil extraction process to begin, even though the heater and the stir arm do keep going without the lid on.This caused us to seriously overheat our first batch of seeds since we did not know this. We put on lid and waited and waited and it just heated and stirred with no extraction. Because the lid and also the electronic digital display is on top of the machine, it is not easy to see if lid is on properly so I have to get up on a kitchen stepladder to read the settings. I am not short. ( 5'3" ). It is important to twist and press down simultaneously as you place lid on hopper. Just putting it in place does not work and I did not find that in the instructions. We tried the raw setting first, (because I had called and asked before purchasing if this can do cold-pressed oil and was told there were settings for hot and cold, but this raw setting is only for preheated-in-oven-seeds) which heats for 6 minutes before it starts pressing the oil, but it seems that you cannot realistically expect to get oil out of flax seed without heating it up quite a bit more then that. It clogged and no oil came out. So,we switched to the flax seed setting with mild heat setting, which preheats for 10 minutes, ( this right after the first attempt so the flax seed in hopper got pretty hot and the oil came out very hot and a bit dark, understandably. I am just mentioning so you do not do the same thing.) We let it cool off and the next day tried again, and used a meat thermometer to check temp of oil as it comes out. First 2 ounces was warm, But then it gets hotter till it averages out at 145 degrees for one cup of oil when you are done.We found it gets about 1 cup of oil for 3 heaping cups of flax seed and it tastes really delicious, a nutty, fresh taste with no bitterness, it really does taste better then any oil I have bought anywhere, and that includes Barleans. I did not bother to use the filter screen provided because tiny particles of seeds do not bother me, so my oil was not clear. I popped it in our freezer right away which is the only place to keep flax-oil since it gets bitter quite fast in the fridge. However the question remains, is 145 degrees cold-pressed oil? Some web sites say that above 120 is no longer a cold-pressed oil, but when I called Barleans company, which is considered an expert, they told me that the oil does not degrade or get ruined unless it reaches 300 degrees. ???? Are we being too picky when we expect cold pressed to mean 120 degrees? European standards hold that cold pressed oils must be extracted by expeller pressing at temperatures below 122 degrees F. : http://www.ehow.com/facts_6021027_cold-pressed-oil_.html?ref=Track2&utm_source=askIs there any home oil press out there that can do this? We plan to keep on searching. If you are looking to produce cooking oils this would be a good oil press. It does work well for getting great-tasting oil out of seeds. And it is the most reasonably priced we could find, so far after searching all over the internet we can't find anything that looks better. I want to state I did not get any kind of price reduction or promotion whatsoever for my review.

No Warranty Support on this product!
Processed one batch of seeds, then put away for the season. Next season, it failed to function. I sent it back (at my expense) to the so-called Warranty Service department. They have had it 3 weeks now and still have not even tested it to determine the problem, "Waiting for someone to bring in some seeds from home".what a joke. Any purchase from this company should be done only with the assumption that there is NO Warranty.

I love this oil extractor
It took me a couple years to get this out of the box but I’ve been using it for a month and it’s incredible. I was always told fresh oils were beneficial for health and I was buying flax seed oil from store but I know it’s been in room temp for months so probably rancid. This machine is amazing. Fresh oils in minutes. I see how people could complain about some small mess or not working but what can you really expect. Just if the oil stops coming out the seeds may be stuck and there’s a tooL to push it through. It’s a small mess but way more perfect than I could expect. And the machine is so inexpensive.I went back to buy another couple machines for my other houses and it was disappointing to see they are not available. Hopefully not discontinued.Highly recommend this machine. Just give yourself a minute to figure out basics. It 15 minutes I got maybe 2/3 cup of fresh oil.Highly recommended.

Not great for walnuts, maybe other nuts or seeds work better.
Instructions are not very clear at all. I used it for walnuts and it kept jamming both with heat and without heat, I tried different size nuts it all did not help, to get one cup of oil I had to run it approx 6 times to clear out minor jams, it would help alot if they had that instead of stopping it would first try spinning the other way to clear the jam. One cup of oil took approx 5 hours for me.It may be better with other nuts or seeds, but for walnuts it did not preform well, it seems more suitable if you need it just to get a few tablespoons at a time.

Well made, but poorly designed. It will not accommodate chopped walnuts, for example. They must further be chopped by hand to half the original size.

very happy with it.
works like a charm. I had some hazelnuts so I tried them first. The meal left after the oil was extracted was very dry so I'm pretty sure I got all the possible oil out. I'm going to use the meal in some homemade quick bread.my husband put the unit together because my talents don't include assembling stuff. it was real easy to take apart and clean. I'm looking forward to using it often. I wish I could find a list of oil-producing plants somewhere, though.

This press is of great quality and looks like it will last threw the many uses we have in store for it. This is a must in any kitchen where you are setting it up to grow your own organics and process them yourself. Great company to work with.
