These will last many years. Good for the purpose it's intended for
Sentry safe makes excellent products. I bought this in 2013. It has held up well. Lock still works great as well. This comes with two keys which is also nice.It has some bulk to it, but you can still easily conceal it.This is very good for small items. Like documents, Jewelry or any other sensitive items. And it should hold up for a little bit in case of a fire.Should you leave this out in the open with sensitive items in it? No. This is meant to be hidden. For the price I paid in 2013 it has been an excellent.I have multiple Sentry safe products that are even older. And they have all been solid.Case in point, good for the intended purpose. A larger and heavy safe with a better lock system is better if somebody wants to deter a thief.

solid safe for a good price.
i just wanted a safe for collected coins and local currency since im overseas. amazon shipped for free which is nice. this safe was better built then the one offered at my local store. comes with two keys and lock functions ok. the keys are alittle weak. it feels like they could bend if twisted with too much pressure. i wanted a safe which was fire proof but not water proof, we have alot of humidity in my house. i would recommend anyone who wants a solid safe for piece of mind from a fire(hope it doesnt happen to anyone) and one that can be stored under the bed and out of sight of wondering eyes.Update: This safe has held up great. No wetness or smell inside on contents. I live in Japan so humidity is a factor but I control the inside of the house pretty well. I was going to buy crystal packs to soak up any moisture in the air but now I might not.July 6th 2012: I had my passports and many coins in here. Nothing was ruined or wet when we had to take out our passports to use them for traveling. It seems to have kept out all moisture from Japan's tropical island climate for three years!!! I'm confident that all my important items would be safe during a flood or god forbid a fire would happen.

It is nice and solid
I bought this fire safe to protect my important paperwork. It IS a smaller safe and not meant for large folders of papers. I use it to keep my car title, passport, and other very important documents safe.It is nice and solid. I've never tested how well it holds up while on fire (thank goodness!) but I have complete faith in it. This SentrySafe is well-made and durable enough that I've dropped it once or twice from several feet off the ground without damaging the safe. Thankfully, I missed my toes, because I doubt I could say the same for my toes if they were under the safe. The lock on it is a privacy lock, not a security lock, by design. It will not prevent someone from just taking the fire safe with them if you are robbed, and it's not meant to. The specific purpose of this safe is to keep your important papers from burning up in a fire. As long as you keep that in mind and use this safe for its intended purpose, it'll serve you well for a long, long time.

A Great Little Peace of Mind
I picked this up for a pretty good price and was pleasantly surprised to see it said Made in the USA when I got it, cool. It's big enough to hold some of my papers, data discs of family photos and a couple other things. It gives me real peace of mind whenever I leave the house that even if the worst happens I'll still have some of my most important stuff. They even offer a replacement program where they replace it for free if it does ever serve it's purpose and melt down protecting your stuff! From their website, it will protect USB drives, CDs, DVDs, memory sticks, etc. from an average fire. I think it protects pictures adequately, but it won't protect floppies or negatives. It's maximum internal temperature should only get to about 350F, so theoretically anything that could survive a half hour in that should make it.If you want to store things like tax records or have flood risks, don't get this; go get their hanging folder unit that's also waterproof. Another important thing to remember, this unit promises "privacy" not security, so if you need to keep stuff secure this isn't for that. You can order replacement keys for it, I think for $12, so if your kid wanted a peak or someone steals it, no protection. There's not too much to say about functions, the only moving parts are the key slot (two keys included) and the lid which functions in both the super exciting open position and the somewhat less exciting, but equally necessary closed position. Let the good times roll! The *only* reasons I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is the locking mechanism is a tad cheesy, though functional, and it's not wide enough to place an 8x10 piece of paper in without folding it. I'd still recommend this unit highly. It's not much money for a 1x security investment.

Nice & Sturdy!
I got this safe to ensure that some of my more personal items were locked away safely. The dimensions are just as described and it is not too heavy, but heavy enough which shows the strength of the case. When the hood is down and I turn the key to lock it, it meets a little resistance to let me know that the metal bar is latching into place. This box could easily be pried into though. Only one metal latch is turned when the key lock is engaged. Anyone with minimal strength could pry it open with a flat head screw driver. Therefore, I do not recommend this for an open place where it can be stolen or worked on.It is great for what it is though! Very pleased for my purposes!
