I am kind of a snob when it comes to music, so chances were very good that I would have returned this if the sound was not up to par. Sounds remarkably excellent for its size!

Can i connect a reciever to this?

No. the chassis has only three output jacks, 2 RCA (L ch & R ch), and one 3mm headphone jack. However, there is a built-in A.M. / F.M. receiver, and tuner, that gives fair quality sound. There are no input jacks.

Are there any copatible speakers

The speakers, on board, are good quality but any amplified speakers that you could connect to the outputs , would, in-all-probability, be better.

can you play 45 records on it?

Yes, this product plays 33 1/3, 45 and 78.
