Great Phone, all its old problems are gone.
I read a lot of negative reviews about this phone was it first came out last year, but it seems either all the problems were unfounded, or they were all fixed via software updates. All the negative reviews I read were either from 40-60 year old people trying to use their first touch screen feature phone and had lots of button press or unlock issues, or they were about issues with glitches in the first or second versions of the proprietary (and unique) operating system this phone uses. What I can say is all the personal access issues are simply incorrect and the result of either ignorance, bad touch screen technique, or big fingers, because this phone is snappy and almost flawless. There are many options in the menus for increasing phone lock steps to keep the thing locked in your purse or pocket. On the software side of things, I can not comment on the problems with earlier iterations of the phone, but Samsung seemed to have worked out any and all bugs in the OS. I have not had a single issue with any aspect of the phone: the T9 is perfect (albeit useless with the keyboard), the phone screen correctly responds to the proximity detector and shuts off while on calls, there are no issues with the charging icon, and the phone never restarts itself. So in other words, don't put much stock in negative reviews about this phone from May-November 2012, the issues have been corrected and this is a great little feature phone for those who don't want a data plan.

DO NOT FALL FOR THIS
I rec'd this yesterday, charged it up, activated it, and transferred all my contacts. BUT I CAN'T USE IT because it's a piece of XXX. Two problems right off the bat - no need to bore anyone with details and i'm sick of talking about it. I just spent a couple of hours online with Samsung help chat - VERY NICE person on the other end - very patient and helpful - led me by the hand through all kinds of suggestions and even led me through resetting the whole thing to see if the problems had anything to do with the software - but no, it's a hardware issue and I am supposed to package it up and ship it off to Samsung for examination and, if possible, repair. So that means that I will be without a usable cell phone, as my perfectly good old one was deactivated to get this one to function. This is not right - but then what did I expect for a penny anyway - where'd these things come from - they're garbage. OH, and not only that, but now I am locked back into another 2-year contract. Well, we'll see about that ...

Very responsive, lock screen issues though
I purchased this phone for my mother who wanted it for the longest time. I did not want to get her the phone because I saw some bad reviews here, however it is nothing of the sort! The screen is very responsive and it not laggy. The only thing is that it often pocket dials people. I tried to change the settings to lock the screen sooner, but this option does not seem to exist on the software that is present on the device. If I find a way to get rid of this issue, I will update my review. Also, the on/off button is easy to press but is small and would not be suitable for someone with a large finger. This phone is a great option for someone who wants a touch screen phone with no data plan required; as why I got it for my mom.

Issues with phone
Bought this for my 12 year old daughter, the phone has issues with intermittent times when you can't hear her talking, it seems like she is whispering to me when I call her, then it gets really loud. Her friends complain of the same thing, when she calls them. Otherwise a great phone and perfect for her :)

Smarthphone functionality without the Smartphone Price
I brought this phone for my 13 year old son who (in my opinion) is not old enough yet for a smartphone device. This phone functions like a smartphone without the smart phone price. I paid one cent for this phone with a 2 yr contract on Amazon. Total cost $30.01 - extremely affordable. In the verizon, store they wanted $99 after the $50 mail in rebate plus a $30 2 yr contract fee (way too expensive). The calls are clear, the phone is easy to use, and if he looses it, I only paid a penny for the phone. Great phone, excellent price! I definitely recommend it for you or your teen if you are not ready to pay smartphone prices but still want smartphone functionality.
