I work in construction so I have to wear heavy work shoes in hot and humid climates. Fair enough to say my shoes and boots come home dirty, wet and dank from 10 to 14 hour work days. These balls do as intended and help eliminate odor and dank humidity that comes with shoes. The smell is not so great it’s just your basic neutral hospital or general grocery store bathroom deodorizer smell. It’s not awful or anything just super generic. However these balls last a very very long time. I use them daily and I’m still on the first two out of the six balls. I’ve been using them daily since I purchased them and it smells just as potent as day 1. I don’t know the life span on these in more humid climates. We just got into summer months and i use these indoors. That being said you are getting what you paid for. If you are sensitive to smells and are expecting like a more aromatic scent this may not be for you. Again just think of your most generic antibacterial soap or deodorizer spray and that’s the scent this gives off. Please note it won’t make your shoes smell this way or you won’t notice the smell unless you place your nose an inch away from the balls or your shoes. One thing I would improve perhaps is the packaging it’s super hard to open and i’m guessing they keep it air tight to avoid product decay. However, there’s no real effective way of opening the packaging without ruining the seal on the balls next to the ones you are trying to open. I just stapled the packaging back down and throw it in a ziploc bag. Minor issue really. Would prefer more of a neutral smell or a manly sandlewood scent but end of day i got what i paid for and the product efficacy and life span is top notch. The smell is likely not for everyone. this will not prevent your shoes from getting funky forever and it will not fix shoes that are too far gone. This is preventative maintenance ie if you use these then you may buy yourself 6 months before your shoes smell off depending on your usage and climate.

After using this exact product many years ago, I decided to give them a try since I couldn't remember if they worked well or not. The reviews here on Amazon, seemed mixed; stating that it either worked well at eliminating odors, or masked the odor instead of eliminating it. In an attempt to perform some semblance of a scientific venture, I performed a "pseduo-experiment" to evaluate the efficacy of this deodorizer. I have a fairly smelly pair of shoes that I wear when biking through the city. I received the deodorizers and decided to test them on this pair of shoes, since I could see how well they eliminate already-formed odors. I measured the distance from the shoe opening to my nose over the course of 7 days to see if the distance would decrease; indicating that the funky feet odor was decreasing. Also, I noted the distance at which I could smell the distinct scent of the deodorizers; indicating if the deodorizers were turning my shoes into a pungently masked mess. In both measurements, I removed the deodorizer from the shoe. I always used the deodorizers with the hole open to the largest setting. Here's the results: Day 0 (I haven't used the deodorizers yet, so this is my control/standard): Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 2' 11" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - null, I haven't used the deodorizer yet! Day 1: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 1' 9" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 4" Day 2: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 1' 3" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 5" Day 3: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 1' 0" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 5" Day 4: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 0' 6" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 6" Day 5: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 0' 5" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 5" Day 6: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 0' 3" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 6" Day 7: Distance nose to shoe (funky feet scent) - 0' 2" Distance nose to shoe (deodorizer scent) - 0' 5" Overall, they appear to have done the job! The funky feet scent has drastically decreased, and while the scent of the deodorizer has certainly increased, it appears to have leveled off at 5-6" from the shoe opening. Furthermore, the distance of the deodorizer scent drops to 0" when I'm actually wearing the shoe, since the scent is unable to escape the confines of the shoe interior! I'm pretty pleased with the product, but I can't speak on long term durability of the deodorizers (how long they'll last) or their performance in other types of shoes (my shoes are 90% all-leather, with only the sole of the inside of the shoe being cloth/fabric). So all-in-all, the deodorizers seem to both eliminate odors (decrease funky scent distance) as well as mask odors (overpower funky scent with deodorizer scent). However, the former is drastically more noticeable, so 5/5 stars!

I got these for my trip as I’d be walking 20k steps a day in the heat and didn’t want stinky shoes. They worked perfect. I used the same 2 balls for 3 weeks and the freshener smell is still there. My sneakers haven’t smelled at all. Easy to open and close.

A classic product that does its job well. I have nasty feet so my shoes get stinky. These really help in reducing odors. Would recommend.

This item is prettu durable. Smell is okay but not too good to reduce smell in the shoe.

Love those shoe fresheners for my sneakers, as well as for my steel toe boots I keep in my office. I also drop them in my husbands shoes, so our shoe cabinet does not smell up the entrance of the house. I also put one in my gym bag. The balls last a long time. I usually have to buy more, because they get lost somehow. I’ve had some for over a year, and they still smell good.

Decent scent, lasted for over a month. Opening and closing the vents had some effect, but since it isn't air tight it just changed the intensity of the scent a little. The gym bag I put it in thanked me too. Would buy again.

diese Duftbälle sind eine gute Erfindung ! Gerade Sportschuhe und Sneaker riechen manchmal etwas unangenehm. Mit SchuhDeo hatte ich bislang noch keine guten Erfahrungen gemacht - der Geruch verfliegt zu schnell. Liegen diese DuftBälle aber mal einen ganzen TAg im Schuh bleibt der Duft lange erhalten.

Though small in size, the fresh scent which the sneaker balls emits keeps stinky sneakers at bay, and stops the spread of any odour through a suitcase or duffle bag. Even after being used for three weeks, they are fresh enough to continue to use back at home. Great size, great scent, perfect travel companion.
