Challenging but fun
A fun game, very different to Gran Turismo because the cars can be damaged and there is a career path to follow - not an alternative to GT as I find myself playing GT when I just want to "drive" but the career mode is challenging with each stage teaching you something new.

Good but not quite perfect
Possitive Points:Realistic looking cars and tracksRealistic handling, each car handles very differentlyMany different types of racing inc:RallyNascar/SupercarFormula 1 + Formula fordStreet racingNegative Points:Graphics are slightly pixelated at timesVERY steep learning curveCan stress you out at timesLong loading screensThis game is an excellent racing game for the PSP, it has a very different racing style to WipEout PurE ( were you start in last and work your way up, in Toca you start in 6 out of 12-20). It is not arcade-like, like Burnout and Ridge Racer and it isnt a rally game like Colin Macrae and WRC (although it has about 12 tracks from colin macrae 05 since it is made by the same people). Finaly, since it isnt a street-racer like NFS Rivals and NFS most wanted it is in its own class and is the best racing SIMULATOR out on the PSP.

Great Racer with Plenty of Variety
Since this was the first (and as yet, only) game I've bought for my PSP, it's been getting quite a hammering. The relatively short championships and auto-save function make it perfect for the 'pick up - put down' gaming that the PSP was designed for and the huge variety of cars and tracks mean it never gets dull. The game-play is fairly linear - although from time to time you get a choice of two championships to enter, you don't get to go back and do the other one, so it feels like you're missing out. However, this does mean that you can start a second career and choose a completely different path of races, extending the life of the game.My only niggle is with the car damage - particularly with the F1 style cars: if you're going to try and make a game realistic by including damage, you should try and make the other car drive a bit more realistically too. The amount of times I've lost a rear wing from a car ploughing into the back of me on a long straight has started to grate a bit.I can't compare this game to the PS2 version as I've not played it, but the PSP version is a great game in its own right. It only gets 4 stars because it would have been nice to have a bit more freedom in choosing which championships to enter (as in Gran Turismo).
