They have thorns, but not like roses. I find them to be prickly. There are a few thornless or nearly thornless varieties, but that would just encourage all the wildlife to eat my raspberries. I find the birds leave them alone as well, my thoughts are because they are not red. It's a great bush. It has been over a year and they have doubled in size.

Q: How big do these plants get fully grown?

If they died unless roots were damaged in shipping then the death was by you not planting or taking care of them. It is virtually impossible if roots were fine. Funny how people blame
