Vandoren Juno JCR0125 Student Bb Clarinet Reeds (Box of 10)

These reeds are advertised as student reeds. Turns out these are individually sealed Vandoren reeds from quality cane with a regular "jazz" cut as opposed to the French file cut seen on the Vandoren Blue Box reeds. In the US these reeds are only sold through local dealers. These reeds were designed as easy playing reeds for students. They are somewhat softer than the corresponding traditional blue box reed of the same number. That said, I having been playing the clarinet for many years and use these reeds for playing jazz. My setup is a Juno #2 reed on a R13 clarinet with a Vandoren 5JB mouthpiece and a Rovner Versa ligature. This combination requires many hours of practice to build up the chops to play say Charlie Parker and especially Coltrane on a daily basis. You might want to start with a less open mouthpiece like a B45 (with a #2 1/2 Juno reed) if you find difficulty with this combination. My goal is to eventually move up to a Vandoren V12 #2 1/2 reed (from thicker cane) on the Vandoren 5JB mouthpiece. In the meantime, I continue to use this "student" reed for playing jazz on the clarinet.

I purchased these reeds for my son as they were recommended by his clarinet teacher. They arrived on time and each Reed is well packaged. He’s not a complete beginner and he found Rico reeds were better suited to him. However, he did say that he could see how they’d be very good for a beginner as they’re easier to get used to.

Good quality. These are probably softer than what you would expect from a 2.5 reed.

These look to be good quality. I've bought them for new clarinet students at school so not tried them myself. Chose Juno because of the specific student / beginner focus. Always use Vandoren myself so a trusted brand.

Good option for students until they have good control of the instrument

I cant give a 5 star as we were told to get the wrong reefs. otherwise we would of given.

Bought for a young beginner who gets through reeds at speed of knots and always needs a backup in his case for school. Have found this pack to better value than in my local music shop where they only come in 3s
