I have a 32 inch waist, what size do you recommend?

I have a 34" waist and usually can wear medium. They recommended ordering one size up so I ordered large. When I tried a pair on they were really snug and low-rise and barely covered my butt. I'm in decent shape but I think were designed for an underwear model. I can imagine since they are cotton they would shrink after washing and be even tighter. I did order another brand and they fit great, and washed up really well.

Is the pouch convex or does it lay flat when wearing them ?

I wash warm and tumble dry for just 5-10 minutes. They hold up great.
