can you use somthing like a 6 or 9 ft extensions cord or do i need to use one for powertools like 25 ft or more

6 or 9 ft. common household extension should be ok. Plug the gun into the extension and feel the extension for undue heat. If extension gets very warm or hot don't continue to use it.

How does the precision adjustment knob work?

It just adjusts the position that the trigger starts from. The tighter it is, the more depressed the trigger is.
