The 10 Best of Everything Families: An Ultimate Guide for Travelers (National Geographic the Ten Best of Everything)

Covers too much-with too little
This book is good for families to leaf through to get ideas of what their travel interests are. It covers a huge variety of ten best lists-from family art camps to fishing adventures, and famous trees to folk life spots. However, "covers" is not really the right word. There are only one to three sentences describing each listing, not enough to get me interested. There are lots of small color photos throughout the book. But, again, it misses the mark, as probably 90% of them are generic photos, not pictures of the destinations or events listed.

It's OK
It is OK. I don't know if they used it. They take a lot of vacations and take their two boys.

Coffee table book
I love this book. It will be a great reference on vacations. I've traveled extensively as a park ranger and would say the author nailed it. Why didn't I think of writing this book?

A Travel Book That First Asks Families: Why do you want to hit the road?
Times are tough and millions are thinking about cutting out travel this year -- but doing something with your family, even if it's a one-day drive to a regional destination is well worth the effort. And, yes, I know that families come in various shapes, sizes, ages and blended generations. Here's a big, thick, idea-packed resource book from the family-friendly and globally savvy folks at National Geographic. If you can't find something in this book that moves you to hit the road, then nothing will budge you! There are many great new travel books out there right now. (I also strongly recommend Frommers 500 Places to See Before They Disappear .) What I like about this new National Geographic book is that it's not organized by place -- it's organized by traveling motivation! For instance, do you travel mainly to see "Nature and Science"? Well, there are 24 lists with 10 items each -- 240 great ideas for people who mainly get up and go because the natural world is calling them. My favorite in this section? "10 Best Famous Trees" The list includes "Witness Trees," especially the venerable trees that "witnessed" the battle at Gettysburg and Lincoln's address there after the war.The book is Web friendly as well. Want to go online and "read more" about the 100s of ideas in this guidebook? Well, Web links are provided for every item in these lists.Other travel categories include Arts, History, Seasonal Celebrations. There are even lists here on cooking programs, great movie theaters, music festivals, civil rights landmarks and Asian heritage sites.
