but the brush is so fantastic that I wanted to add my voice to the ...
It's hardly necessary to add another 5 star review for this brush, but the brush is so fantastic that I wanted to add my voice to the chorus of others saying so. Assuming mine isn't the first review you've read, you've heard the brush is great, and I'm guessing that you, like me, are wondering if it's REALLY worth the price tag. I did too. And you might also be trying to find some tidbit of information to convince a reluctant spouse that buying a $200 hair brush isn't insane, which, let's be honest, it is, as my husband repeatedly told me. What convinced me really had nothing to do with the brush and everything to do with a general frustration buying crap. There are certain products that have risen to the top of their industry but that command a price premium - think Dyson vacuums, Vitamix blenders... the Mason Pearson is one of them. I have bought dozens of lousy hairbrushes in my life, most of them around $10. Sometime about a year ago, I splurged on a $40 brush that claimed to be "as good" as the Mason Pearson. It's not. It's essentially the same lousy brush with a hefty price tag. And when I think of all the money I've spent on brushes, it's considerably more than $200, and had I bought this first I would have saved money and aggravation and had a better product all along. I have no idea what part of "brush science" makes this brush different, but it feels AMAZING to brush your hair with it. So, here's what happened - I agonized over buying this. I read every review I could find. They all said essentially what I'm saying - it's the best brush, we're not sure why, but you should just trust me and buy it. So eventually, I did. The day it arrived my husband came over to watch me open it, naturally curious what in the world could possibly make a brush cost so much. And I think more than likely waiting with an "I told you so" chambered for when the brush inevitably was just a brush and nothing more. I ran it through my hair and immediately noticed a difference. It's is just so perfectly comfortable and it feels like the brush is actually massaging your scalp when you use it. I was standing in my kitchen, not in front of a mirror, but my husband remarked immediately at how silky and shiny my hair was - from ONE use. If I saw the scene play out in a commercial I would have said it was absurd, but it's true. One use, and my hair was so much softer and shinier that my husband noticed. I've been using for a couple of months now and I'm in love. Brushing my hair is something I look forward to. I have long, thick, wavy hair that I straighten, and it works great for me. I have a 7 year old with very long, thick straight hair and a 5 year old with medium length straight thin hair and it works well through all the different textures and lengths and they beg me to use it. The only thing I would say is that this is not the right brush to use on wet hair. I use a Wet Brush for that, which is no where near as nice as the Mason Pearson, but the instructions that came with it specifically said not to use it on wet hair and I believe them. I will be buying one of these for my daughters as they get older, because it will last their whole life and the earlier they get one the less they'll waste on cheap drugstore brushes. Every other brush I've ever used feels like running sticky fingers through your hair. Buy this one. You'll love it.

Expensive but worth it
I was super hesitant to buy this and this has been on my wish list for so many years because of the high price tag. I have even bought other brushes that have the same type of bristles. I have very damaged here as a result of bleaching it for multiple years and this brush has been a miracle worker. It makes my hair so much less frizzy. And it add shine to it.

Polishes my hair while detangling the mess I call my "mane"...
Definitely a splurge, I am not going to lie... it hurts the wallet thinking you'll be spending it on a $120 brush, but how many brushes do you buy in a lifetime? The last one I had lasted 5 years and snapped at the handle - typical drug store brand. I figured since I've overhauled all of my makeup and hair tools to high-end toys, I might as well get a brush worth having as well... This brush polishes your hair with just a few strokes - any nasty coarse strands are suddenly silken and beautiful after running this through your hair. It definitely delivers what it promises; the combination of boar bristles and plastic massages my scalp without being too harsh on my skin. It's VERY light weight (I was expecting something a bit heftier) but over use, I've come to realize I like lighter items in my hand as it doesn't stress your arms (great news for hair dressers or people with arthritis) or hands. This is NOT the type of brush for a person that likes something that does it ALL. I would NOT recommend combing your hair with this wet - EVER. This is something you would use on dry hair for a quick brush through to de-tangle or polish during styling. It is not something to use with a hot blow-dryer and it won't curl your hair or cook breakfast for you. =P It's definitely worth it in my book because I am a SUCKER for tools and gadgets worth having that can make my life easier/nicer. This makes my hair shiny without having to put it through heat if I don't have to and it reduces the amount of product I have to use. I definitely appreciate the simple craftsmanship and my only gripe would be that I have to clean it from the hair that collects in the bristles. - That's OK though, since the brush does come with a separate brush to "Brush" your brush? LOL... I know it sounds weird, but that's what it is and it works. Hope this helps and I hope you get it! It's a fine luxury brush definitely worth owning. =)

THE BRUSH!
This is the best brush in the world. It actually picks up the oil from your scalp and delivers it to your hair. I have been using these brushes since I was 25. I have only owned three of them. I gave one to my husband. I lost one and my other one I still have because itโs my pocket brush. You will never go wrong with a mason Pearson brush it massage your scalp. The bristles do not hurt but actually stimulate hair growth. Itโs a little pricey, but it will last you with proper care your lifetime. They also have different styles for different hair. I use the junior because I have long hair. several different sizes make it perfect for everyoneโs particular need. These are the brushes you actors actresses use, andsee in five star movies. Since 1976 itโs the only brush I ever bought.

It's a good brush.
The orange membrane has lots of cracks in it. Happened within the first year, but it's still held up after several more years of use. The gold colored paint on the handle wore off VERY FAST. It's a good brush but a little expensive. I'm happy with it overall.

Makes brushing my hair a joy
I got my first Mason Pearson brush when I started kindergarten. A neighbor recommended it to my Mom because I was always in tears when getting my very thick and long hair brushed. Mom was horrified at the high price, which was then about $30, but she bought me one. No more tears. That brush lasted beautifully for 40 years. Then a few of the bristles began to break, then a puppy got hold of it, which was the end. After suffering with a cheap brush for a year (my hair is still very thick and long) I splurged on a new Mason Pearson. Yes, scary expensive, but no more suffering. Brushing is a joy again.

At last, a great hairbrush - Mason Pearson Junior Bristle/Nylon Mix
I always had great hairbrushes and then could not find a decent one for YEARS. I have tried so many brushes thru the last 20 years that I lost track. Everything from dollar stores, discount stores, and department stores to beauty supplies stores. They were all sadly inadequate and most downright painful to use, not to mention damaging to my hair and scalp. I just happened upon Mason Pearson brushes, hurray for the internet and Amazon.com! This brush is fantastic! My hair is now shiny and healthy looking again and my scalp feels wonderful with no flakes. The bristle/nylon mix is perfect for my not too long and fine hair. It glides thru my hair and massages my scalp effortlessly and with no painful pulling or snags. NOTE: I have large hands and I am happy I got the Junior rather than any smaller versions of the Mason Pearson brushes. UPDATE: It's now February 2012. This brush is truly amazing. I am still VERY happy with this and it looks almost new. Really a quality brush and so nice and gentle with my hair and scalp. UPDATE: It's now August 2013. This is the absolute best brush. Still looks almost new and is wonderful to use. The way this brush is holding up, it's my guess that this will be the last brush I ever buy. UPDATE: It's now July 2021. Still looks almost new and is still my favorite hair brush of all time. It's been 10 years of daily use!!!!!
