TekpowerOEM Mastech MAS343 Auto-ranging AC/DC Digital Multimeter with RS232 PC Interface

I needed an rs232 capable dvmm. This is it. Baud rate etc is 600, 7,n,2. I used Googles Terminal app. Its free and it worked with this multimeter. Its important to set DTR to green ON and RTS to off gray. Any character sent to the meter will result in getting the "DC -0.000 V" format. Apparently the DTR and RTS is used to power some line. Sep 2022. Nice large display it has a switch to turn on/off backlight. Has a bar graph below the digital display. Test leads are typical for this price range. My good test leads cost more than this meter. Anyways, if you need comm capable dvm this one is hard to beat.

The meter beeped when turned on, but the display was blank. The software is not compatible with Windows 10. The meter was returned and refunded. This is intended to be a review of the item, not the seller.

For a budget meter , not too bad compared to others IN ITS PRICE RANGE. Externally the instrument appears surprisingly solid. Inside, one finds a PCB with sloppy workmanship, including several bodges, and lots of flux residue. Inexpensive doesn't have to equate with poor assembly practices. Input protection consists of two small PTCs , a medium-sized HRC 15 amp fuse, and a couple of short HV arc-over slots . ...overall, it is certainly not designed for high energy applications. The meter did pass my own ESD testing w no problem. AC mains testing was fine, as well as peak input DC voltage (1000 VDC). Other observations of the internals: discrete CPU (M343-10) with only one other IC , a 74HC4060 divider/counter, solid input jacks soldered directly to the PCB, and mechanically latched push switches for aux functions (nice). Test probes are fair. Other accessories include, data logging software , and a DMM-to-computer interface cable. Finally, I concur with the other reviewer who pointed out the "missing" frequency and capacitance functions on the actual unit received versus what's shown in the pict. ...wtf?

On the meter I received, the selector dial looks noticeably different than what's pictured in this listing. The meter I'm replacing had these functions, and I used those features often.

I had high hopes that this would connect to my laptop but unfortunately it is an outdated interface and not usable with my I 7 Lenovo laptop. However I did not get it necessarily for the laptop I got it for a portable digital multi-meter and so far this is perfect a lot cheaper than the competitors and just a solid and good infused as anyone else.
