They look and feel like real wood
Perfect for a chess set and probably much more durable than wood.

a terrific chess set at a bargain price!
These chess pieces are just what I wanted for casual speed games on my 2 1/2 inch squares chessboard! They also look just fine on a 2 1/4 inch squares board - not too crowded. The quality is very good as you can barely see a trace of a seam on any of the pieces - no doubt because of the complex and expensive moulding process that is used in their creation. I couldn't be happier! Well done! For an improvement to these pieces I removed the padded leather bottoms and replaced them with bottoms of thick billiard table cloth. This enabled each piece a super smooth glide across my chess boards. It was easy to do as the leather bottoms lifted off quite easily while remaining intact so I was able to use them as templates to make the new ones. I used cue tip glue for the adhesive as it sets in ten minutes but allows for the initial positioning of the new bottoms. I had been concerned about possibly scratching my boards as the edges of the leather bottoms are a little on the sharp side and I often play fast paced bullet chess games. Now I'm pretty much worry free as to how my opponents physically handle the pieces when in this time format!Gordon W.

Chess pieces quality
Started out with a large square board found at an antique store, but it didn’t have any pieces & I thought oh well, I’ll just find pieces later. I had no idea that when I found them through Amazon, I’d be blown away at the quality of the product. Wow, quite impressive.

Nice quality, but the colors are a little off
This is a decent plastic (sorry, "polymer") chess set for the money. The styling is attractive, maybe not quite up to true Staunton standard, but close enough. The pieces fit very nicely on my tournament-style chess mat with 2.25" squares. They are not particularly heavy, but they do have a bit of heft to them, and a nice smooth feel in the hand. The artificial wood grain effect is actually pretty well done and looks nice. My only complaint is what another reviewer mentioned: While the black pieces are an attractive reddish wooden tone, the white pieces are more of an odd greenish-yellow color, like mustard mixed with pea soup, rather than the golden wood tone shown in the pictures. This detracts from the overall attractiveness of the set. They also are a bit "clinky" when the pieces rub together, which I guess you have to expect from a hard plastic rather than actual wood. Overall I'm satisfied with this chess set, and it's definitely an improvement from my old cheap plastic set, but I'll be keeping my eyes open for a better one in future.

Really nice set!
I was prepared to be disappointed because of the price. I wasn't. These are actually a really nice chess pieces. Beautifully done. The mold seems are bearly noticeable amd has a nice polish to them. Pictures shown on a leather roll up board with 2 1/4 inch squares.

Visually Very Nice
Chess set with a mahogany board is a very nice addition on my coffee table. Pieces are fairly weighted and resin molding procedure yields a nicely simulated wood grain. Also the knights (hardest piece to make) are visually perfect. Set is weigted sufficiently to play comfortably; price point is excellent. With my 3 inch King set, a mahogany/maple board suits nicely with 1 and 3/4 inch squares. Glad I purchased it. The only minor issue I have is that you can feel some slight molding lines on some of the pawns. They are practlcally invisible to see but I'm not sure if they can be polished out with a rouge cloth and maintain original finish; will investigate (hardly noticeable when playing). They're a notch above the standard black & white plastic pieces you get for about $25. I highly recommend this chess set.

The nicest set of chess pieces I own.
I've wanted this set for awhile but, I waited to order till I could get the extra/large tournament set with 4.25 inch King.I love this set. The size and the weight are perfect for me. I put them on a green vinyl mat board and they look great. After using the set for awhile I would like to add - that one of the features of this set i have grown to love is the size of the Rooks. They are as tall as the Knights and have more girth than the Queen and King toward the top. They are a big piece of business compared to other sets.I have a pretty nice hardwood handcrafted set and I put them out when company comes - still this is a comfortable set to play with and I enjoy it.

Well Made Quality Chess Set but the Light colored set is an Unattractive Dark Mustard Color
A well-made set that exudes quality but the white pieces are an unattractive dark mustard color. The lines of the pieces are crisp. The piece's weight feels good in the hand. The bottom is not felt but a vinyl material that provides just the right resistance on the board. I understand they are not made from wood, and I really like the simulated wood grain vs a solid color. The 3.75 inches tall King with its 1.6" base was the perfect size for my board with 2" squares.Unfortunately, the color of the white set is very unattractive. The color on the web page and also on the box the set arrived in shows a light cream color but what I received was a dark mustard color. A very unattractive color and lets down the quality of the set (see picture). I liked the dark brown color of the other set, but the mustard color is just too dissonant to look at continuously and play with.
