Gyokucho 770-3600 Razor Ryoba Saw with Blade

I love this thing! Cutting up everything!

Not sure why it took me this long to discover the Japanese Ryoba saw. This saw seems to "know" where to go. I made about 30 complex cuts in an afternoon and the saw followed the marks exactly. It's extremely sharp and ends cuts so-close to the edge the the wood doesn't tear-out. Cuts are very thin so it only requires about 3 fingers on the saw to pull it through a 2x4. The blade is replaceable, so you can try other designs or replace a worn blade. I keep the saw in the original plastic packaging sleeve, this is good enough for occasional use.

This has quickly become my new favorite saw in the shop. I even saved part of the thick vinyl wrapping that it came with to make a sheath so I can mount it to my magnet strip when not in use. I will most likely be buying the entire Gyokucho saw line and build a proper stand for them all. The teeth are very sharp. The handle is good for all day use. The blade stays straight through the whole cut and only flexes when you want it to. At the price, it is easily the best trim saw I've ever use. This saw is a must in my shop. I feel confident saying I will never buy another brand again.

I've used pull saws for 20 years but this is the one I got for learning dovetailing. In my pics I show the saw on the left which is my original after almost 2 years of use, and a new one I got for cleaner cuts. As you can see the plate on the old saw is bowed, and you can't really tell but the rip side is a bit dog eared at the corner too. The pullsaws I've owned in the past had thicker plates than this - but on those saws I learned how not to break teeth, so the old saw is still razor sharp, it's just deformed. I still use it as a beater but have the new one for dovetailing and fine work. For perspective, the deformation happened over the course of building a lectern, about three dozen dovetail boxes, two 6' tall pantry cabinets, two carcasses for under my bench, all the drawer bodies for my bench, and quite a lot of random board cutting and ripping. In other words, it's far more punishment than I would have expected it to deal with before having problems, and it still works... I could probably carefully bend it back somewhat straight. It also works very well with magnetic dovetail guides. The only reason I ding it for a star is because really what is the point of having a removeable blade? Nobody sells replacement blades for even the expensive ryoba, and in the rare case where someone does, it's at least 75% of the cost of a saw.

Love this little saw. At first I thought that it was just too small but after using it the first time it was just right. I use it to cut smaller pieces of wood, or to start a cut for a larger saw. The teeth are typical ryoba set up, with smaller and closer set teeth near the handle and getting bigger and farther apart at the other end. Also love that it is basically two saws in one, crosscut and rip saw. And best part is that they blades are replaceable so no need to sharpen. I have used previous saw blades as scrapers, as the steel used is very good. I had thought the handle was soft and leather like, but it is actually somewhat hard plastic. But it still provides a very good grip to the saw.

It's the best saw I've ever used! This 7-inch saw is the perfect size. It's great for cutting small pieces and also excellent for cutting large ones.

I occasionally have small cuts to make on moldings or small boards that are really too small to make safely or easily on a table saw or miter box, this extremely sharp and fine handsaw is just the ticket. It cuts cleanly, quickly and amazingly accurately to shave even a very small edge off of a board or molding. I find myself reaching for it time and time again for those quick finish cut adjustments. Because it is so flexible, you can sneak it into places that you just can't get to with conventional power tools. I keep it in the plastic sleeve it comes in to preserve the razor sharp teeth. Great tool.

Living in Hawaii, I have used Japanese pull saws for thirty plus years, Purchased a Kakuri in the same size from Amazon in Dec 2020 to replace a favorite from twenty years ago, but it surprisingly became dull too quickly. I only use these on cerdars and redwood. This Gyokucho 770-3600 is much sharper... and of better quality... and is also made in Japan. I have seen similar saws produced in China and the steel used is far inferior. Stick with true Japanese manufacturers. I highly recommend this Gyokucho saw. I also bought a 125mm flush cutting saw by Gyokucho... FYI, the price has dropped... good time to buy.

Superb!!!!!! Teak wood loves to get cut by this gentle Japanese saw. One can cut any angle, any tilt. Great for dovetail cutting.

J'ai découvert ce type de scie part une connaissance japonaise étudiante en arts appliqués . J'ai été si emballée par ses qualités que j'en ai offert pour Noël à 3 bricoleurs de ma famille . D'abord surpris, c'est un outil dont ils ne pourraient plus se passer désormais car cette scie à main d'un concept très différent de nos scies occidentales les surpasse quand on recherche des coupes fines, bien droites et sans effort , avec une finition soignée. Des liteaux, des baguettes d'encadrement, du parquet etc... elle a même recoupé très proprement un plan de travail mélaminé de 3cm d'épaisseur avec une coupe parfaitement droite et sans éclats du mélaminé ce que n'aurait su faire ni une scie circulaire ni une scie sauteuse . Lame changeable sur ce modèle ( mais pas encore effectué malgré un usage non intensif mais régulier ) . Même s' iI en existe de plus belles et performantes (mais aussi plus chères) celle-ci offre déjà un excellent rapport qualité/prix à qui veut découvrir la scie japonaise sans se ruiner . Un outil indispensable loin du gadget. .
