We love our CitiZ!!
We've had this thing since early Nov 2012, and use it quite a bit -- every day, averaging 4-5 shots a day, so that's maybe 300 shots and counting. Here are some random thoughts about our experience so far:----------------------GOOD STUFF:---------------------- * The espresso is very good. Intense flavor, thick crema, just yummy. I won't claim to be a coffee connoisseur, but I've had *bad* coffee before, and this is not it. :-) I'll say it this way -- I think strbucks is pretty good, I think kcups are pretty bad. This is way up at the strbucks end of the spectrum. I personally think it's *better* than strbucks, but I can't be sure -- it might just be because I don't enjoy standing in line. * It's quick, it's consistent, it's easy, *dangerously* easy. To make a shot of espresso (warm the machine up, insert a coffee capsule, push the button) takes about 2 minutes. Cleaning up afterwards takes another minute. * It's fun to try making "recipe" drinks -- latte', cappuccino, macchiato, ... the Nespresso web page has suggestions and methods. * In 2 1/2 months, we've already recovered (based on strbucks prices) the cost of the machine. And that's without considering the *time* we save, the added enjoyment of being in our own cozy home, etc. (We didn't necessarily buy the machine to save money. Just sayin.. even if it falls apart the day after the 1 yr warranty ends, we'll happily buy another.) * Optional: For extra credit, you can snip the foil lids off the capsules, compost the spent coffee, and recycle the aluminum shells. In that case, there's very little trash left behind.----------------------BAD STUFF:---------------------- * We did have a bit of trouble with the machine right out of the box (the pump wouldn't prime). However, the Nespresso guys were very responsive, helped us resolve the problem. Since then, we've been working the machine pretty hard and haven't had any trouble. * If you enjoy the art/ritual aspect of espresso -- grinding, tamping, drawing the shot, knocking the grinds, cleaning and preening -- if that's what floats your boat, this is not the machine for you.

Very easy to use and makes great espresso
I've owned a few espresso machines over the years: Many years ago, I owned one of those stovetop metal machines. It's been so long since I've had one of those that I'm not even going to comment on the quality of espresso it made. Subsequently I purchased a few different pump machines made by Krups. They both made decent espresso, but nothing compared to what I could get at a decent cafe.I moved several months ago and discovered that my espresso machine didn't survive the move. After fruitlessly trying to figure out how to get it running again, I decided I'd just buy a new machine. What to buy? I looked at Krups again, but thought it might be nice to get something that would hopefully make even better espresso. I looked at Breville and a few other brands, but my frugal side kept pulling me back to inexpensive machines by Krups and a few others. Meanwhile I was seeking out opinions from others, both in person and online, and finally decided to give the Nespresso brand a try. I was initially extremely put off by the notion of buying into a system where I'd have to buy my coffee from the manufacturer, but I did have to admit that the ease of use seemed great and I wasn't particularly enamored by all that was entailed in using a manual machine.I've now had my CitiZ for nearly three months and have to say that, along with my Nespresso Aerocino, it is one of the best consumer electronics purchases I've ever made. I like strong espresso, so my preferred pods are the more intense ones: Ristretto, Arpeggio, Roma, Decaf Intenso, and the limited edition Kazaar. I've had espresso at a few cafes since buying my CitiZ and I honestly have found all of them inferior to what I get from my CitiZ. The CitiZ is so easy to use that you could probably make your first cup of coffee while half asleep.I just descaled my machine for the first time yesterday, and that was quite a breeze to do as well. (Look for a helpful YouTube video on descaling the CitiZ versus trying to figure out Nespresso's illustrated instructions.)In closing, yes this machine cost me more than I initially wanted to spend. Yes, the capsules cost WAY more than buying coffee beans, grinding them yourself, and then using them in a machine where you have to measure, tamp, etc. But what you get in exchange for the premium cost is consistently great espresso. I'm frequently a budget minded person, but this is one indulgence I'm happy to have developed. I haven't enjoyed drinking coffee this much in years. And, no, I'm not a Nespresso employee -- I just sound like one. :)

The quality is gone
I think this is an example of what was once a very good product and very good company that became successful and stopped paying attention to what made them successful.I yesterday pulled my brand new citiz machine out of the box looking forward to enjoying a cup of espresso as described in many reviews. Unfortunately, I never even got to rinse out the machine as it never got off of standby mode.Since then I have been on with customer service at least 5 times (and am writing as I am on hold to speak with a supervisor). The first time I called it happened to be an evening and, after asking me to unplug the machine and try turning it back on told me that the "escalation department" would be able to take me through a more technical troubleshooting but was closed so would have to call me the next day. They didn't call by midday so I called them. This technical troubleshooting consisted of my trying a different outlet! They didn't seem all that bothered by my not getting a working machine. I was surprised given what I had heard about their customer service.Update: The supervisor was more sympathetic but not any more helpful. She seemed very proud of the fact that they were willing to send me a new machine without my sending them the old one. She kept describing this as a special exception they were making due to my defective machine. I feel like it's pretty standard. In any case, I hope I get a working machine. I'm sure I'll be happy with it, but I if your machine happens to have a problem, I don't think you can expect anything more than average help from the company. Very frustrating for a premium product (at a premium price)

works fine except...
Works fine except the programming feature which should set the length of the pour is erratic, sometimes short, sometimes long.
