Are these genuine Nintendo cards?

I'm not sure, but they look almost exactly like the ones that I saw on Wikipedia. They look like the ones from the page here, except the backs of the Nintendo cards are red - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koi-Koi

Is it easy to learn? Does it have an instruction booklet?

There are a variety of games and variants/house rules you can play with the cards that are all easy to learn and quickly found online. The set does come with an instruction booklet, but it is in Japanese. I watched a couple YouTube videos, did some googling, played a bit on hanafuda.com, and downloaded a few iPhone apps. I taught some friends at work how to play once I settled on the game, house rules, and scoring system that I liked, and we've had a lot of fun with it. Amazon sells a book on Hanafuda (http://www.amazon.com/Hanafuda-Flower-Card-Japan-Publications/dp/087040430X/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1407901031&sr=8-11&keywords=hanafuda), but I found the other resources I mentioned to be a lot more helpful and interesting. The games in that book are very simplistic - like children's games. I prefer other games I found that involve a bit more skill, but even those are very luck-based. I've yet to look up the variants that involve betting, but I'd like to do that at some point, too.
